LIVE: Speaking to the 2020 UCP Virtual AGM

The first weekend of the UCP Virtual AGM, including the policy and governance plenary sessions was a huge success. Thank you to all those who made it possible. It was a fascinating experience being in the studio for the whole of the two plenary sessions. I am looking forward to the conclusion next weekend. The number of votes cast for both policy and governance resolutions indicates a membership which is very much engaged in the running of the party. I was very pleased... that we were able to debate all resolutions. I am very proud to have chaired the Party Policy and Governance Committee which ran the policy and governance development process. It was an honour to work with so many dedicated and hard working party members. It was great to see both the premier and the leader of the (federal) official opposition too and great to hear them answer members' questions. All together it was a great start to the UCP's AGM!

The Battle of Britain was fought 80 years ago. Today is Battle of Britain Sunday, the day chosen to mark the nearly four month battle. During the battle British and Commonwealth forces defeated the German Luftwaffe and Italian Air Force. It was the first major defeat suffered by the Germans in the war. The failure to win air superiority prevented them from attempting an invasion of the UK. Lets we forget.

The Liberals are not so much a political party as they are a criminal enterprise.

Fellow UCP members, After much consideration I have decided to re-offer for the position of Vice President - Policy and Governance for the party. I am very proud of the work our Party Policy and Governance Committee has done over these past eight months. We have made huge strides in developing a process that is grassroots-oriented and effective despite the ongoing public health crisis. Shortly after taking up the position, I began an ambitious programme to visit as many CA... AGMs, CA meetings, and other gatherings as possible. I am pleased to say that I was able to reach out to many different parts of the province and gather a fantastic amount of member input regarding what form members believe our policy and governance development process should take. These visits came to an abrupt end in March, for obvious reasons. However, I continued with member engagement through Zoom meetings and live updates, followed by question and answer sessions on Facebook. I also sent updates to CA presidents and all party members via email. I am very pleased with the advances the PPGC made this year, including training sessions and training documents for drafting resolutions. I believe this is key to having an effective grassroots process, and if re-elected I intend to continue the training initiative. The process we developed this year was innovative and allowed for both individual involvement and CA guidance. In general I believe the process worked very well, but there are areas that can be improved. To that end, a full audit of this year's process is being conducted to inform future years. Should you, the party members, decide to re-elect me, it is my intention to apply the lessons learned from the audit to develop a process that is grassroots, fair, open, and efficient. I, therefore, respectfully ask that you vote for me for the position of Vice President - Policy and Governance at the AGM in October. Should I be re-elected I will continue to work on improved communications with the membership and CAs, and further development and refinement of our process to facilitate the party membership in running our grassroots party. Kind Regards, Joel Mullan,CD
