Hello Joe Rich Community, We are getting close to the end of open burning season for 2020/2021 - open burning is scheduled to end April 30th, 2021. You are required to have a valid burning permit, issued from RDCO, and have checked the conditions for the day. You can check conditions by going to the website: https://www.regionaldistrict.com//air/outdoor-burning.aspx or by calling 1-855-262-BURN doo(2876).... That being said, you are still responsible for observing local weather conditions. Is it windy? Is this a safe area for my burn pile? Do I have shovels, rakes, and water close by? Are there better alternatives to burning? Joe Rich Fire Rescue appreciates your support with being fire smart. Stay safe.

We are excited to share a new video with you today. Have you ever wondered what is behind the doors at Station 51? Curious of the gear that is used or where it is stored on an apparatus? Now you can watch this virtual tour and see for yourself.

If the needles from your Christmas tree are a fallin, it's time to do some hauling! Get rid of the tree after Christmas or when it is dry. Dried-out trees are a... fire danger and should not be left in the home or garage, or placed outside against the home. Drop it off at any of our Chip-it locations for free through the end of the month. https://www.rdco.com//program/christmas-tree-chipping.aspx Ellison Fire Department Joe Rich Fire #WilsonsLandingFire @NorthWestsideFireRescueFirefightersSociety See more

Happy New Year! I think it's fair to say that 2020 has been challenging and it will be remembered for a long time. As we try to imagine what 2021 will look like, 2020 should teach us that our ability to predict how the future will unfold is inadequate, at best. We will remain flexible, responsive, and professional in our approach. Doing so will help ensure that no matter what the future brings, we will be poised to handle it in the best way possible. As a department, we atten...ded 89 calls. Ranging from first response/medical to traffic control, power/telephone/cable lines down to motor vehicle incidents, chimney fires to mutual aid calls with other departments/regions. We had new members join, and other members move on. We had promotions, certifications, and goals achieved. Despite not being able to host our community events this summer due to COVID, this year brought the most successful Food Drive in its 16-year history! The department and community raised over a combined total of $6000 for the Okanagan Food Bank - $1600 in cash/cheque donations and over 1650lbs of non-perishable goods. Our members donate 3% of their wages every pay period. This amount allowed our department to purchase a new truck! If you see a black pickup with our JRFD logo, that is Utility 52. Our members are very proud that they could purchase this vehicle. We look forward to 2021 and the opportunities that lay ahead for our department and for the community of Joe Rich. Stay safe, and all the best to you this coming year.

From everyone at Joe Rich Fire Rescue, we wish you and yours all the best this holiday season.

Do you have a real tree indoors this holiday season? Festive celebrations, flickering lights and winter greens are hallmarks of the holiday season, but they also present fire risks that can quickly turn this festive time of year into a devastating one. Christmas trees are combustible items that become increasingly flammable as they continue to dry out in your home. Although Christmas tree fires are not common, when they do occur they’re much more likely to be serious....
