So Gummy! The 29-year-old factory grease in this first-generation Shimano STI shifter had congealed and shifting had become less and less reliable. With cleaning and re-lubrication, it could be good until 2047!

Bike of the Week Typhenn’s beloved early 90’s LeMond road bike is back! In early June of 2013 she lent it to a friend...who lived on a flood plain... The original brake lever/shifters didn’t like being filled with Bow River silt and Typhenn was done with drop bars anyway. We reimagined her chromoly friend as an urban assault machine that would make any bike messenger drool!

Does your drivetrain squeak no matter how often you oil your chain? Check to see if the upper pulley wheel of your rear derailleur needs lube.

Is your rear derailleur too tired to get into high gear? Put a spacer between it and the hanger to extend its life. A chainring or axle spacer will do the trick
