If someone tells you that your kid is bullying another kid, put your ego aside & listen. While it might not be a big deal to you or your kid & you might not even think it's bullying, if another kid is going home broken you need to help fix the problem.

Here are the mental health challenges kids have identified to us, regarding social media: 1. Adults always assume they're doing something useless with their device, and this frustrates and hurts them. 2. Adults in their lives are looking at their devices and don't hear what they're saying, and that makes them feel sad, hurt, ignored, worthless (their words, not ours)... 3. They get made fun of for their passion for Fortnight, or Minecraft, or Roblox, or ... by adults. 4. They aren't sure how to talk about the stuff they're worried about, because they don't want the adults in their lives to take away their devices or social media platforms. 5. Bullying and hurtful comments A lot of time we don't realize we're hurting our kids with our actions. JYC founders Jo Phillips and Joe Whitbread have spoken with more than 30,000 kids, and we can tell you for sure, they need us to start listening rather than assuming. And they need us to put our phones down.

We're hoping to run social media summer camps again this year. As the kids in our clubs can attest, doing it online is just not as fun. Planning is in the works because we're optimists!

This is a tough conversation, but a necessary one to have with our teens. They need to know they can come to us when they are scared.

Trust us on this one, especially if you have kids in grades 5 to 8. You might also wanna ask about Finsta. :)
