We are just under 48 hours until the deadline for the submission of the 2019 Student Design Competition, what better way to countdown the final days with our 2 guest judges this year. Along with John Willmott, the panel will include Gerald Grieve and Peggy Chiu. John Willmott , B.ES, B.Arch, OAA, MRAIC. John Willmott is the Principal Architect and President of John Willmott Architect Inc.. Established in 1998, John Willmott Architect, Inc. provides professional architectura...l services primarily in the area of custom residences - new houses, additions and renovations, cottages and boathouses. John graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in 1989 and a Bachelor of Architecture in 1991 from the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. Now having worked in the industry for over 25 years, John is pleased to share his experiences and knowledge in architecture. As a life long Oakville resident, he has a great appreciation for the Town. He is glad to have the opportunity to both organize and judge such a competition every year to expose students in Oakville to the field of architectural. Gerald Grieve, B.LArch, OALA, CSLA Gerald Grieve graduated with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 1980 from the University of Toronto. After apprenticing with Aldershot Landscaping for 4 years after graduation, Gerald founded Gerald Grieve Landscape Group Limited in 1984. The company is a successful and award winning landscape firm providing both designs and contracting. With experience in both commercial and residential landscape, Gerald has a great understanding for natural and built forms. We are pleased to have Gerald again this year. He has been a part of the judging panel annually since the competitions inception in 2011, as he is able to provide great insight on the competitions site and landscape designs. Peggy Chiu, B.E.S., B.Arch, OAA Peggy Chiu graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Architecture in 1991. Since graduating she has worked with small local design firms as well as large scale commercial firms. Her expertise ranges from high end residential, multi-unit residential, commercial office buildings, hotels and more. In 2006, Peggy founded Peggy Chiu Architect Inc. where she completes large scale projects all over the GTA. Aside from her practice, Ms. Chiu mentors intern architects and researches sustainable construction practices. She currently sites on the Practice Review Committee and two Task Groups of the Ontario Association of Architects. We welcome Peggy this year as part of our judges panel and her expertise in form, function and public developments.

We are 1 day away from our 9th Annual Student Design Competition. Please spread the word to Grade 11/12 students attending any Oakville High School that is interested in Architecture, Engineering or Design! Our information night will be held this THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 26th at 5PM at our office (594 Chartwell Rd in Oakville). It is highly recommended that anyone interested attends to gain a better understanding of the project and competition.... There is a $20 entry fee which can be paid that evening in cash or e-transferred after registration. Hope to see some new faces!
