A perfect day to join Stephen Lloyd and members of APAW (Association for the Protection of Angell Woods), Mayor Georges Bourelle and members of Beaconsfield Cit...y Council, and Greg Kelley and Geoffrey Kelley for the inauguration of Angellstone, a magnificent sculpture by artistic stone mason John Bland to commemorate the 20-year campaign by local citizens to save and protect this extraordinary green space in the heart of Montreal's West Island. These are some walls I built for two of my favorite clients. Very nice people who have a strong appreciation for fine craftsmanship. Most of the stone came off their own property which was unearthed during the construction of their home. The rest came from the farm fields of a nearby agricultural campus. The walls are finished off with a sedum top. Its a nice greener looking alternative to finishing off the top of a dry stone wall. The sedum is virtually maintenance free and doesnt mind being dry for long periods of time. A cool thing I learned from my buddy Eric Landman. A great Canadian dry stone waller who I work with quite frequently.

This Is a dry stone bridge which was built in Perth Ontario. The project was conceptualized by John Scott. Who over ten years ago was my masonry professor at The Algonquin college heritage institute. John Scott and I collaborated to design the bridge which was eventually built in 2016 during a dry stone festival. The festival was organized by the not for profit group Dry Stone Canada. There were over 50 wallers, mostly members of Dry stone Canada but also guest wallers from... Ireland, Scotland and the USA who helped build the project. Also two very talented Canadian stone carvers Phil Smith and Danny Barber made two very fancy key stones for the project. In 2018 the bridge won an award by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering gaining recognition as Canadas first civil engineering demonstration site. You can read more about it by clicking the link below. In https://www.insideottawavalley.com//9090948-perth-s-dry-s/ Photo credits: Steve Barter, John Scott

This is a Dry Stone building I built with my friends Eric Landman and Trevor Spik. Two very fun and talented guys to work with. There arent many like it in North America. The building has been dubbed The Sugar Shack. It was essentially modeled around a traditional Scottish Black House. Roof just recently installed

This is a public art installation I designed and built in Angell woods located in the city of Beaconsfield Quebec. The installation was commissioned by APAW a not for profit volunteer organization which has fought over the last two decades to prevent the woods from being developed. The work was commissioned to commemorate their 20th anniversary. You can check them out at apaw.ca All the stone used in this project was gathered by hand from the woods itself. Only hand tool...s were used in the cutting of any stone. The only carbon footprint attached to this project came from approximately one tank of gas, the food I ate and the embodied energy in the tools I used to produce it. It was a fun and challenging project and I feel as though I made a lot of new friends in building it. Thank you APAW!

2016 Dry Stone Festival created an amazing Bridge and Wall being enjoyed this summer in the beautiful historic Town of Perth's Stewart Park. Both structures sur...vived this year's major flooding without problem. Kudos to all those who made it happen - especially John Scott and his merry band of wallers and carvers from across Canada, the US and UK...These structures will last many lifetimes. 2017 Dry Stone Festival is September 30 & October 1st in the historic Village of Barriefield in the east end of Kingston Ontario. Mark the date - plan to join us. Check out our website at: www.drystonecanada.com for more details.

I designed this installation for the 2015 Amherst Island Irish-Canadian Stone Festival. The Installation is astronomically aligned. It was designed so that the sun would align with 2 points in the installation. the first, a small moon gate in the form of a cross. the second a Claddagh carved into a piece of limestone. The Alignment was timed so that it would occur at 6:30pm the closing of the festival.
