Today, I officially closed down the business for the summer and sent in all of the final cheques. I thought it would be fitting if I wrote something about the j...ourney and a couple of words of advice for anyone who has seen a clipboard with "Summer Management Program" across the top of it. When I started this journey last September, I never thought it would have the impact it did on me. I never thought I would be able to run a $81,390 business at 18 years old. The person I was a year ago is someone completely different than the person I am this September (that's a good thing, a really good thing). Since January, my days have been filled from the moment I wake up, until the moment I go to bed. Dealing with some of the most difficult challenges I have faced to this day. However, all of the difficult challenges and hard times will never overpower the amazing experience I had running my own business this past summer. There was a number of times where I thought to myself over the course of the past 8 months, "Is all of this worth it?" Especially when I was knocking on doors in January, asking people I have never met if they would be interested in getting their house painted in the next 4-7 months. Facing countless rejections but still persevering through the snow storms. Or in the summer when I had to paint from 5:45 am until 10 pm in order to finish a job and meet a deadline. So, to answer the question "was it all worth it?" Yes. 110%, with absolute certainty, yes. My motto for a lot of the summer was "why not," why not work really hard so that when I look back in September (Now), I can be proud. And just to clarify, I would never trade what I did this past summer for anything in this world, and I am very proud of the accomplishments I achieved this season. The long days aren't so bad when you're chasing your dreams, or doing something you're passionate about. In my eyes, no company will better develop you, or provide a better company culture than Student Works Painting. The people are what make this company so amazing, and if you surround yourself with good people, amazing things can happen. Sam Symons, I just want to thank you for always being there when I needed you and not just being an amazing coach, but one of my closest friends. I know I can always count on you to be there for me when I need you the most. If I took away nothing else from this experience, I would still be happy with the friendship we built over the past 8 months. You really are like a brother to me and I can't thank you enough for what you've done for me Chris Thomson, Thank you for providing me with an outlet to realize my potential and to go after something that I have always wanted to do. Student Works really did change my life. Your motivation and charisma played a huge role in my success this past summer, so thank you & I look forward to running an even bigger business next summer. And finally, a big thank you to all of the clients that trusted me this summer and thank you in advance to all of the amazing clients to come in this next summer. What an amazing year.
