Challinor Seeks Regulation Of AirBNBs and Other Short-Term Rentals in Urban and Rural Milton As a result of numerous complaints about illegal short-term rentals through AirBNB and other proprietors across all wards in urban and rural Milton, Milton Council unanimously approved a motion by Ward 2 Councillor John Challinor II requesting that the Town of Milton investigate the matter and develop appropriate regulations. Milton Mobility Hub Study May Create New Downtown Core The possibly inaptly-named Milton Mobility Hub Study was received by Milton Council one hot August night this past summer with very little fanfare, but this plan could dramatically change Milton’s central business district by creating a modern uptown-downtown core that rivals anything found in the Greater Toronto Area today. Milton Council Approves 2021 Operating and Capital Budgets While a slim majority (5-4) of Milton councillors rejected a motion late last summer from Ward 2 Councillor John Challinor II to direct staff to return to Council with 2021 Operating Budget packages containing 1, 2 and 3 percent tax hike options, Town staff eventually came back to Council with a 3.93% tax increase package that was unanimously supported by all. The Trudeau Government approved the CN Intermodal project for Milton today. Sad day for all Miltonians. I personally invested in an independent report when I ran for this office in 2018 that would have provided a better intermodal option for CN and its business clients. Unfortunately, it was never seriously considered, although it was presented to the environmental panel reviewing its Milton application. https://johnchallinor.ca/cns-milton-intermodal-terminal-th/ I want to t...hank the Province of Ontario, the Region of Halton and the Town of Milton for their collective efforts in attempting to constructively deal with this matter. In particular, I also want to thank the Honourable Lisa Raitt who, as Minister of Transport in the summer of 2015, required CN to participate in an environmental assessment. That requirement alone delayed today's decision by five-and-a-half years. It appears the result of that work also fell on deaf ears... See more

Here is my year-end interview with Milton Now FM...

Seventy-five years ago, my father and numerous uncles and great-uncles returned to Canada from Europe, following the end of World War II. They were amongst 1 million Canadians who served with the Allies between 1939 and 1945. My grandfather and great uncles also served on both sides of the Atlantic with the Allies during World War I, alongside 650,000 fellow Canadians. I've forgotten the sound of my father's voice, but I've never forgotten what he and his generation did for you, me and all who desire freedom.

When the COVID-19 post mortems begin at the other levels of government, the Town of Milton will be prepared to participate and will also have a document of its own to learn from and plan from for next time.

Challinor Gets Bylaw Approved To Deal With Illegal Clothing Bins Almost two years after a local resident raised with me the matter of illegal clothing bins being placed on Milton streets, I was finally able to work with Town staff to develop a bylaw that Milton Council approved earlier this spring that will effectively deal with them. While Guru Garib Niwaj Welfare Society, the Brantford, Ontario-based charity... Challinor Helps Re-set Municipal Tax Roll Fine Levels In Milton The fines associated with overdue tax roll accounts at the Town of Milton has changed. Based on a local resident’s complaint to me about a $170 administrative fee on an overdue $10 tax roll charge, I worked with Town of Milton Finance staff to re-write the related bylaw, which was supported by Milton Council this...
