This is the Trailer for Samhlú 2020, the tiny Teilifís na Gaeilge or TnaG, celebration of the Arts in Ireland in 2020.
In the first Nenagh Guardian piece about my dad's death it is noted, "Seán organised the Irish Dancing Competitions at the North Tipperary Show for 13 successive years." He woulda loved this...
I was off-work and on a short bereavement leave there for a while. A cold and bitter coming I had of it, this journey into 2021. My father Seán Doyle died in Dublin on Monday December 28th., 2020, just three days before his 97th birthday. COVID. The virus was rampant in Ireland pre-Christmas, there was an outbreak at my dad's nursing home where had been for a few months - the first they had - confirmed on Christmas Eve, he tested positive on Christmas Day and after a short bo...ut, he died on Dec 28th. Everything was and is made more complicated and painful by the COVID situation; I could not be there to comfort my mother, the church service and burial were very curtailed and I saw the funeral mass online-only, with 10 people present there in the church. My last contact with him was via FaceTime the day before he died. The year 2019 was bad enough, with my one sibling, my sister Máire, dying after a brief battle with cancer in October of that year. Then came the virus and this. There’s a lot about my dad in my book A Great Feast of Light. You can read about him there if you choose. It’s not easy to do justice to my dad’s character. Let’s just say this: He didn’t have an enemy in the world. Who could possibly dislike Seán Doyle, a man so gentle and tender-hearted and principled? Ní fheicfear a leithéid arís. His like will not be seen again. https://www.nenaghguardian.ie//a-man-who-never-forgot-his/ https://www.nenaghguardian.ie//a-man-who-never-forgot-his/

An encounter with Maradona, BUENOS AIRES, 2009. "The man is breathtakingly familiar, slightly bloated in middle age, but the mullet hair and multiple diamond earrings are iconic. And you could see the confidence in his piercing eyes. Always, with Diego Maradona, it's a one-man show. And he knows it."
