A song for the season
For all the folks who might be interested in seeing the Johnny Cole show "Meet me at The Rex" that we performed last night, it can be viewed tonight at 7:30 MST by going to Northwestel TV on facebook and go to the video tab.
Thank you to the 50 people who purchased tickets for the "Meet me at The Rex" show this coming Thursday! I am really looking forward to performing this show with my friends for you. Johnny Cole moves into the NACC today, our last rehearsal will be Wednesday and we'll be having a great time Thursday night at 7:30. As I find details about the broadcast of the show on local TV and Facebook I will let everyone know.... JC
So folks there are 5 tickets left for the "Meet me at The Rex" show next Thursday. One group of 4 seats and 1 single seat. Call the NACC at 1-867-873-4950 to get tickets!
Art like life is always changing. I believe this to be a good thing. The songs that were written for the Johnny Cole show "Meet me at The Rex" were factually correct for the time. As new information comes forward, lyrics change to reflect this new understanding of my families history. Or in some cases, lines of a song change to simply make it easier to sing. Life goes on and I continue to learn, guided by the history I choose to study.
Update on the November 26th Johnny Cole show at the NACC. There are 11 tickets left. 2 groups of 4 seats and one of 3 seats. ... In order to purchase one of these groups you have to call the NACC. https://naccnt.ca/contact-us
Last night was the first rehearsal for the show on November 26th. Due to COVID we are having to do a scaled back version of "Meet me at The Rex". Instead of an 8 piece band we are down to a 4 piece band. To be honest, I wasn't sure that some of the tunes would work with a smaller band. Good news, I was wrong! :) There are still 17 tickets available, the show starts at 7:30 on November 26th. https://naccnt.ca//nacc-special-/johnny-cole-and-late-show
This was a really fun day! It was so nice to share my original music. Thanks NACC.
Really looking forward to doing this with all my artist friends. Come on out and be entertained and amused! I will be performing some of the Johnny Cole material.
It's a Bad Bug Year!
It's almost camping season!
Here is one of 5 commercials that we did for the Radio Ad contest. It was a fun way to pass some time. Spend 2.5 minutes watching all 5. The most important thing is to listen to the content. Like em if you like em.
This is a video that was edited by Gary Milligan. The footage is from the concert of "Meet me at The Rex" that we put on at The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre May 25, 2019.
Ape Boy and the Velcro Girl!
Merry Christmas!
This Sunday at 1:30 in the Centre Square Mall, I'll be talking about Rene Fumoleau's photo collection.
Here's the final cast shot for the night. Photo by Bill Braden Photography
This picture is from a very memorable portion of the show for me. I vividly remember thinking as we were playing the song "What's to become of me" how lucky I was to have my friends Dave Martineau and Pat Braden with me on the stage. Credit: Bill Braden Photography
So I'm back up for air after months of getting the show ready. Bill Braden was at the show taking pictures for the NACC the night of the performance. Here's a picture that gives you a taste of what was happening that night. It looks like we have just finished the song "Six Cylinder Salvation".
Thank you to everyone that can out to see the first performance of "Meet me at the Rex"! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did performing the musical with my friends. I honestly am humbled by the support for the show and after a short break will get onto finishing the recordings and production of some short videos. A huge shout out to the musicians, staff at NACC and Lynn Elkin for helping me realize this production. If anyone has photos from the night please post them.... Johnny Cole
Thank you to all the folks who came out to the show last night! What a blast! To all the musicians, staff at the NACC, Lynn Elkin, my relatives and my lovely wife Sue, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your care and help. Johnny Cole
Well folks, this is Johnny Cole saying thank you for all your support! There are only a few tickets left for the show tonight, the pies are ready and the band is hot! The last couple days have been full as we prepared for this premier performance. Just a couple minor details to attend to, a final rehearsal this afternoon, and then; Tonight at 7:30 at the NACC; Meet me at the Rex!
Here are three pictures from the Lessard archives that are mysteries. We are not sure who these women are, but I think the first one could be my great grandmother Helen Lessard's sister, Elisabeth Lester (nee Butts). The second one, I have no idea and the third one may be one of Helen's children. Certainly strong women. Come see the show Meet Me At The Rex this Saturday at the NACC! Here a picture of (L-R) Louis Lessard, Agathe Lessard (nee Ladouceur), Vivianne Langenhan (nee Lessard), Mae Glowach (nee Lessard) and Ovide Lessard sitting on the bench in front of the old Rex Cafe. Get your tickets for Johnny Cole "Meet me at the Rex" coming this Saturday May 25 at the NACC. One night only! http://www.naccnt.ca//northern-scene-series-johnny-cole-me
Some of my favourite photos of my Auntie Vivianne Langenhan (nee Lessard) by, or in the Rex Cafe. I absolutely love the first picture. Join me on May 25th at the NACC for the premier of the musical Johnny Cole "Meet me at the Rex". Tickets are $15.00 and available at the link below http://www.naccnt.ca//northern-scene-series-johnny-cole-me
This a picture of my aunty Armandine Bourque (nee Lessard), or as we called her, Imogene Bourque. She was born in Lac La Biche and was married to Joseph Boniface Bourque.
