With the lockdown after the holidays, staying healthy could be challenging so I am about to launch a virtual program that will help you focus and be accountable to yourself and your goals! If your health is your priority, this is something you should seriously take into consideration! Stay tuned for more details! These six lean habits are a great place to start.... 1 Exercise & Move Daily Regular exercise speeds up your metabolism, and it builds momentum to make better food choices. For me, this means 3-4 lifting sessions per week plus 10-15k average steps daily. 2 Stay Aware of Your Body Stats It’ll keep you from accidentally gaining 10-20 lbs. I like to weigh myself daily and look at weekly averages + take waist & chest measures every 4-6 weeks. 3 Eat Similar Foods Most Days This decreases the number of food-related decisions you make. Why does that help? > the more food decisions you make, the more likely you’ll be to make a bad choice. 4 Learn How To Read & Control Hunger You've gotta understand the difference between physical & mental hunger... If you’re *really* hungry, you’ll eat anything. If you crave a specific food, that’s mental. The foods you eat most days (number 3) should help you get & stay full. 5 Prioritize Your Workouts & Meals Wake up and have a clear understanding of what you’re going to eat and how you'll stay active. , make new years resolutions but then feel very disheartened if we didn't meet our own expectations. Put's you off telling anyone, embarassed & very often not only do we stop trying we go back to the thing we wanted to change. What can you do? . we choose to view something is the & we have control over that. . Let's say you did make new years resolutions which are very good intentions but don't meet the expectations you have made, if ...you choose to view this as . Ive failed, what's the point, I'll never make it, theres no point continuing & then you revert straight back the coping mechanism that you learnt a while back, that you know you want to change but now don't feel good so it's the only one you know & the easiest to access in this of emotional reaction . Then without realising you've effectively self sabotaged your efforts, followed those automatic thoughts that in turn cause emotional consequence. Then you're dealing with a feeling, probably the same feeling that causes you to react with the coping mechanism you know so well. . Here's the thing. Without knowing it, there are more than one way to view something, you are also not giving yourself any credit, & agreeing with those automatic thoughts which are every often fear based & not true. The is, today you could learn another way to view this, that can help you change the feelings & help you to do that thing you wanted to do for yourself. TRY . I may have set the bar too high, or not known at the time, that the time limit I set wasn't realistic, or not realised at the time that there may be something in my way that I need to tackle before I start this. So I can learn from this & rearrange my resolution to fit around me & still keep challenging myself. . Then you'll be much less likely to be feeling stressed out with a much better outlook, one that you can see for yourself, *its not an opportunity to beat yourself up if you've never learnt this. White belt, black belt and lifestyle change! I had a conversation last night with an acquaintance and he asked me what it was like to be back to a white belt in the new martial art I am taking now. (Jiu-jitsu) I responded to him that I was totally fine with it. I explained to him that my focus wasn’t on having another black belt but to just improve and become a better martial artist, and in order to be that, I needed to be disciplined towards the process. This means s...howing up on the mat whether I feel like it or not; relentlessly working on new skills as well as perfecting the old techniques; and having patience and working out my frustrations when things don’t go my way. By focusing on these things, most likely, I will acheive my goal of becoming a better martial artist and by doing so, by improving myself, my belt will naturally progress. I will draw a parallel between lifestyle changes and what I do! You see, most people come to me for weight loss - sometimes very drastic - as they tell me what their goals are and they want to stick with it even when I bring up the fact that it won’t be sustainable if we go down that road. Ideally, I will suggest that they focus on their health first, and I will put in place a strategy to bring that blood pressure or cholesterol level down, through some personalized nutrition, exercises and mindset program. By solely focusing on those strategies in order to improve their health, the weight surplus will take care of itself. The moral of the story is: FOCUS ON THE PROCESS, NOT THE OUTCOME!
