It’s a beautiful day here in the garden. Warm and in a sheltered space on my hammock is glorious. The rustle of the bamboo so soothing. Ahhh... Here is 30seconds of vacation for you! #rhisiscedar #tedjolda #spring #warmth #staycation #relax #britishcolumbia #vancouverisland

Some sure signs of spring! New Chicks! We now home 4 Mottled Houdini chicks. Check out their top knots, they are going to have crazy, crazy crests when they get bigger. Watch this space. The daffodils are up all the other bulbs are forcing their way up. The garden is waking up. And of course our own Covid vaccination centre is getting ready! Things are looking up. #spring #thisiscedar #tedjolda #hope #renewal #chicksofinstagram #chickensofinstagram #vancouverisland #britishcolumbia #islandlife

On a drive today we came across the Butter Stone church outside of Duncan. Built in 1870 overlooking Cowichan Bay. I had no idea there were abandoned buildings like this on the island. Of course, it’s said to be haunted. My sweetie and I were celebrating the first day of Spring with a little exploration of our beautiful island. #supernaturalbc #tedjolda #vancouverisland #cowichanbay #abandonedplaces #explorebc #spring2021

I know there is a lot of stress out there. I’m feeling it to. Obsessive doom scrolling on my phone. Constantly refreshing my news feeds. I’m worried. But I’ve long thought to take joy in little things. Yesterday I polished my boots. Here they are half way, I haven’t had to polish a boot since my army days. And frankly I would have been yelled at about the lack of shine. These are wonderful boots made in Tasmania by @blundstone . My darling bought them for me just over a ye...ar ago. They are so comfortable! I feel good wearing them. And the smell of the polish the little spirals made by cloth and finger were so evocative of my youth. I spent hours polishing the were peaceful and the world was saner. I felt great and took such joy from this simple mundane task. Then my love and I walked to the beach at the end of the road, she showed me a trail I had not encountered before. There is a beautiful view and a sturdy bench (in memory of Wolf Hertel, thank you Wolf). We sat a smooched for a bit, which is joyful in itself. But, look closer at the ocean. Do you see the little islet with a lone tree? That trees about 8 feet high I guess. A seed fell into a crack years ago and somehow this little guy clings on. Cathy is certain that at extremely high tides, it’s underwater. But life ENDURES. It was one of the most optimistic sights I’ve ever seen. Remember the tree, be like the tree, bend if you must in high winds, hang on when you feel you may be washed away. And enjoy the sun. Maybe look over at the old lovers admiring you and know that you give other’s strength by just being alive. Stay safe out there. In the words of the great Dr Bonnie be safe, be kind, be patient. #thisiscedar #takejoy #staysafe #littlethings #love #tedjolda #tartooful #islandlife

My daughter and I were talking about Covid fatigue in the car this morning. I got so mad. Three of my kids work in grocery stores, they have to deal with ignorant people who don’t wear their masks properly or want to fight about it. My kids don’t care. They just want to work, they don’t want to get sick, they don’t want me to get sick. It’s a small inconvenience. Wear your damn mask! That said the @oldtownbakeryladysmith has completely redone their interior so the customers c...an safely come inside to buy their delicious baked goods, instead of lining up outside in the cold and wet. @plantitudeladysmith has erected these cute little bubbles on their outdoor patio. Well done you! My mom used to tell me about the shortages and rationing in the last world war. Guess what? We are in another war. But this time we have great communications and endless online amusements. I’m sorry you can’t hang with your friends, I’ve had ticket for a concert that’s been rebooked four times now and it’s going to change again I’m sure. Thank you to everyone working hard to look after themselves and each other. But to that small minority of stupid people SMARTEN UP! Like your moms told you, your just making it harder for everyone. #hometownpride #ladysmithbc #covidsucks #smartenup #rant #tedjolda #thisiscedar See more

The @ikeacanada bag has many uses. Living on an island provides many opportunities not normally available to city dwellers. Two trips up and down to the beach with two bags netted about 50 kilos of lovely seaweed for the veggie garden. I think it also provided a good bit of cardio for me too! #islandlife #westcoast #tedjolda #thisiscedar #gardening #ikeabags
