Wax your car before winter: While the undercarriage is the most at risk, giving your whole vehicle a good coat of wax before bad weather begins is a great pre-game step.... Avoid puddles and plow trucks: Puddles can hold larger amounts of salt, and driving behind the plow means you will be the first to drive through a fresh layer of salt. Pretreat your vehicle's undercarriage: Collision shops offer an oil solution pre-treatment that can be sprayed on your vehicle's exposed parts. This coating will help prevent salt and water from the road sticking to your vehicle's metal parts. Wash your vehicle after a snow storm: Get the salt off your car as soon as possible! Use an under spray: Just washing your car isn't enoughyou have to get the undercarriage clean. Choose a drive-through car wash or a hand wash that sprays under the vehicle . Get a pre-winter inspection: A quick trip to your mechanic for just a check is a great way to go into winter with a safe and fully-functional vehicle. Any indicator of wear and tear should be addressed before the temperatures drop.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning On a day like today, it is no doubt that we all wish to jump into a heated vehicle. And mostly we cuddle up inside while the car is running. It is important to remember that such habits are quite dangerous especially during the winter as it causes carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless residue of the engine system coming through the emission system. There are different reasons for carbon monoxide to be redirected to th...e vehicle’s compartments and affect the driver and passengers. To avoid the dangers: Never run your engine if the vehicle is partially covered in snow. Regularly inspect and repair your exhaust system. Avoid driving a car with holes in the floor or trunk, or with the trunk or liftgate open. Never allow passengers to ride in a truck bed covered with a canopy. Avoid running your car inside a garage or any other enclosed space. Install a 12 volt or battery-powered carbon monoxide detector. Make sure to remove any snow that could block the tail pipe. If sitting in an idling car, always keep the window partially opened. Install a carbon monoxide detector in the vehicle. Carbon monoxide is measured in parts per million (ppm). Levels sustained at 70 ppm can cause headache, fatigue and nausea. At concentrations of 150 to 200 ppm, expect disorientation, unconsciousness, or death.
