Elephants in relationships. . Little issues can turn into big ugly elephants. Or they can be opportunities to proactively have the conversations that can create stronger relationships.
I wanted to share a bit about me and what I've been doing. And invite people who want to work with me to get in touch. . . I get what it's like when your goals ...aren't in alignment with your authentic self, your values, or with how you want to show up in you life. . I had the idea that I wanted to have my own business. That it would give me the freedom, flexibility, and control over my life. I got it up and running and modestly 'successful', and it was an absolutely draining and self-destructive process. . It was so mentally all encompassing that there wasn't anything left for my physical health, mental well-being, or relationships. . And it didn't let me become who I really want to be. . Want to know what given me the most control over my life? . Understanding and honoring who I am, whats important to me, how my brain is wired, and how I want to show up for myself and the people in my life. . This has let me move forward in healthy ways. In ways that I choose. My life is far from perfect, but I have so much more peace of mind, joy, and satisfaction knowing that I'm moving towards the things that I truly want. . And this is what I help people with in their lives. . To make the changes in life that really aligns with who they want to be as a person. To move in directions (sometimes scary as hell) that match their goal and who they want to be as a person. . Applicable in many ways, not just ADHD. Sometimes you don't need to intellectually understand something in your life in order to adapt.
What do you do to self-regulate? . Hopefully you have a toolkit with a bunch of different options. . Here's me trying out a new one that is working well. When my mind is racing and I'm not able to stick on any task I'll lay on the floor and put my feet up. ... . It. Works. Like. Magic.... sometimes. And when it doesn't I have other things to try. Do I know exactly why it works? No. But, I know that it does, and what's important is that it helps me have control over my life. . Diagnosis or not, find out what works for you. Try new things. Let go of any thoughts about it being weird or stupid. If it helps you in your life --- do it! . Do what you need to do. There are two times for the ADHD brain. 1) Now 2) Not now... It can manifest in a ton of different ways, although it's pretty evident in procrastination and to do's that go on forever. . This is me getting caught in the rain again. Because it shows up for me in my planning around the weather. I will so often get caught out at night, in the rain, or in the cold because when I left my house it was sunny. . If it's sunny I don't need a jacket. There isn't any thought about the fact that I'm heading out for a long time. There's no thought of the future. . But when you start noticing how it shows up for you then you can start adjusting. Build your self-awareness and be open to your patterns. . Build your self-awareness!! . The more I become aware of my thoughts and what I'm always telling myself, the more I can actually choose to think differently.
Having clarity, goals, and direction to go in are great. But nothing will change until you're simply no longer willing to accept things the way they are.
