An especially Sad Monday. We've all lost one of the most inspired musical voices of this century. Forgive the lengthy post but I'd like to share a memory: 2008 in Saint John, NB - I think it as called 'The Royal City Folk Festival'(?). I remember I booked a modest Maritime tour around the anticipated anchor date. I was still so new to touring and music I remember, even The Hudson Girl was in tow. Just one day before the festival was to begin all the performers got a cryptic e...mail from the organizers: '...Royal City Folk Festival cancelled due to...' who knows what. Three artists had already arrived at the Saint John hotel: myself, a Canadian band from Montreal whose name escapes me, and Justin Townes Earle. I remember all of us loitering, gigless and homeless in the hotel lobby wondering aloud all manner of 'wtf?!' And so it goes, out of carnage a kindness will arise. Some very excellent dude who ran a first-rate harbourfront restaurant/bar/stage set up a profoundly last-minute night of music: myself and then, Justin Townes Earle. It was a night of music 23 people will never forget. We got to listen intimately to each others' songs and, for want of any typical festival distraction, we got to hang out together for a few hours after his stunning, inspired, terrifying, and strangely candid 90-minute set. I learned a lot about performing that night. Long posts are unbearable, I know, so let's cut to the essential point: my small but intense experience of Justin Townes Earle was ever memorable and inspiring. He presented himself to me as a forthcoming fellow pilgrim of Song. He was generous, funny, thoughtful, literate, self-effacing at times; and shockingly modest and kind for his age - that is to say, he was what I wish I could be more often than I am: all things human and at once. That is to say, in honour of Justin Townes Earle, #SadMonday will be postponed until next week. Let's mourn and consider the life and music of one of the true greats this afternoon. Sing on, #JustinTownesEarle, you are loved. See more

These are trying times for us all. Collective shock, and the new realities are hard for everyone to comprehend. Thankfully we still have our community. The arti...sts, musicians, songwriters, venues, sound techs, bar staff, club volunteers, festivals, and the people who drove us home safely after a night of music. So when Peter Stone from 100 mile house approached us to see if we could join them in helping the community, we decided that for select CD titles in our catalogue, Fallen Tree Records would collect no profit from sales on our website, passing those monies on to the artists or their chosen beneficiaries the people in our community who have been most impacted by cancelled shows, venue lockdowns, and the loss of off-stage sales. For these select CD titles we also simplified the pricing: $20 CAD including shipping and tax. Please help us support the artists, and shop from these titles and join us in supporting the arts through these unprecedented times: Titles include Jay Aymar - Your Perfect Matador, Silent Winters - Christmas Morning, Logan and Nathan - Chasing Tales (And a Few Other Things), 100 mile house - Hiraeth, Worth the Wait, Hollow Ponds, From Fall to Fall, Jessica Heine - Songteller Storywriter, Either Way and Jon Brooks Music - Ours and the Shepherds.

Dear friends, The days of handshakes, fist bumps, hugs, and sweaty, recklessly joyous live music performance are temporarily done. What we suspected was hysterical paranoia on Tuesday has become today, the most basic form of reason and consideration for others. Regretfully, I have to inform you en masse, we have cancelled my March AB/SK tour. I say 'regretfully' in a selfish sense as I looked forward to sharing what I believe to be the most inspired, most musical, and most fo...rceful presentation of my songs to date alongside the hatefully talented, Vivienne Wilder. But this is not a wholly regretful decision. This is a good and right decision. To encourage anyone to gather publicly during the early stages of a global pandemic we still know little about would be cosmically hypocritical, ignorant and disrespectful. The new hashtag, #FlattenTheCurve, will become a tired cliche by day's end but for good reason: it needs to be on everyone's lips for the coming weeks. We hope these dates may be rebooked for less challenging days - we'll be touring Alberta and Saskatchewan again in November 2020. We write and perform songs in the effort to unite us and remind us of our essential interconnectedness - but ours are perilous and accelerating days which require us to endure a period of atomic disconnectedness. Digitally, however, we still encourage you to listen, wonder, laugh and weep to our music with the hope we'll all reconvene - live and atomically - again soon. Until then, endure in good faith, you are loved. Jon
