COFFEE FOR CHRISTMAS It has been a very challenging year for coffee farmers around the world. Market fluctuations due to COVID has brought further instability to an already challenging landscape. There are a multitude of cultural factors that play into the picture. However, it is clear if you are directly connected to people throughout the process you also can’t ignore what they are going through. The good news is you can help, drinking a lot of coffee this year is a great w...ay to support the demand for these farmers. We are honoured to work with people who are leading the way in bringing a better model to serving the producers and farmers in coffee. There is a lot of talk around supporting farmers, however the reality is that a lot of that help doesn’t get back to the people that need it the most. Drew from BxA has been pioneering in a real way, for a long time and it’s one of the central reasons why we are working so closely with BxA. It’s a nuanced, complex and easily dismissable concept of direct relationships. Recently, HURRICANE ETA hit a small mountain village in Santa Barbara, Honduras. 77 families were displaced, lots of coffee workers were affected, mostly coffee pickers. $2 from every bag of coffee sold will go to support this relief effort led by Ben Paz. NORTHSIDE ROOTS We are always blown away by the amount of talent that is in our city. We want to introduce to you someone who you may already know Brent Bates. Brent does a lot of work for Populess but the majority of his work is commissioned outside of our city. Brent has done recent work for the hulu show shrill.... Brent grew up on the Northside of Lethbridge, so having him create something of meaning was super special for us. Part of the meta meaning behind northside roots is addressing and owning the negative perception of the northside in Lethbridge. Our experience of being here and growing doesn't match that perception. Vibrancy, growth and up and coming businesses is what we see. Brent, took our perspective but also drew inspiration from what Japanese culture refers to as WABI-SABI. WABI-SABI In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating the beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature. Five dollars from all crews, hoodies, and shirts will be donated to SAGE CLAN. We want to support SAGE CLAN as they serve the vulnerable populations in our city.

Build Together We set out with a goal to improve our space for you by adding a standing table. Millwork Innovations was a part of our initial renovation and we wanted to showcase the creativity and capacity that is found in Lethbridge. Certain people see opportunity, where others only see risk. Certain people see potential in you, where you only see your weakness. Treena has been that person for us. Her dream for restoring our building became our dream.... Treena has constantly put others first, choosing a harder but truer path. Making postive change in Lethbridge has been challenging from 2017 to 2020. Yet, we are blown away by her ability to keeping building a better culture in all facets on her life. Having big dreams seems to elicit suffering as you step towards them. We have learned so much from our good friend, mentor and building mate. Thank you for making our city and our lives better. OPEN We're back, and we've missed serving you, Lethbridge. Hours... 9 am to 4 pm, Tuesday to Saturday Dine-in? Yes! Seating has been reduced to half capacity, and our full protocol is outlined below. We've been conscious throughout COVID-19 of changing guidelines, and we feel comfortable with the measures we are taking to provide safety for customers and staff Adjustments: We will not be accepting reusable cups at this time We are asking customers to pay with card and will be avoiding the handling of cash The water and cream station is closed - staff will be serving these items We are asking customers to clear their own dishes and place them in the bins provided Since our space is open concept, we've moved the majority of our food prep to Sundays + Mondays, when we're closed to the public. We've chosen to operate as owners before bringing our staff back. Special thanks to Noël for being willing to work on Mondays to ensure we can continue offering our full menu during our rebuilding phase. PROTOCOL Distancing: Seating and furniture have been reduced to allow customers more physical distance during ordering and pick up, and to facilitate safe distancing for dine-in customers Sanitization: Doors will remain propped open as often as possible to reduce high touchpoint surfaces Surfaces such as our POS, tables, chairs, benches, etc., will be sanitized between each customer use All places of high traffic will be sanitized frequently (bathroom door handles, counters, etc) Awareness: Government guidelines and regulation will be posted at the front door and in washrooms, alerting customers not to enter if they have traveled or are feeling unwell, and will be observed by staff In the case of illness/symptoms, employees and customers will be asked to go home immediately to self-isolate, following government recommendations Personal Protective Equipment: Customers are encouraged to use personal protective equipment (PPE) if they can not maintain a distance of 2 meters. Customers will be expected to provide their own PPE.

CHANGE | so much has changed this past week. It has been emotionally charged for everyone, us too. Connection is at the heart of what we do. So we are feeling the loss of face to face conversations, daily friendships, time together as a staff + the loss of you in our lives. ... For us change has looked like bringing operations into our home. Pivoting + working hard towards connecting with you at home - something we’ve wanted to do since we opened. There’s always two ways to look at things. Despite it all we feel a great sense of thankfulness - for your generosity, for the chance to work on things that have been on our back burner for a long time + for the chance to reset + refocus. Cafes are built on human connection. Jonny Bean exists to serve you, and the extension of your social circles. Connection is at the heart of what we do. As the landscape of all human interaction changes, so will we. Below we have outlined a brief overview of the measures we are taking to keep you safe as you are in our space. We are asking you to pay with debit & credit card (also don’t make fun of us, as we wear gloves to handle cash)... We will no longer be allowing outside travel mugs or keep cups (sorry, we don’t want to waste either) If you need cream & sugar added to your coffee, ask us + we will gladly help you The self serve water station will be closed (again, ask us + we will gladly help you) Please dispose of napkins after use Extra sanitization of all surfaces, door handles and touch points will be a focal point for our staff We will be evenly spreading out the tables, to ensure more distances between customers. The most ideal situation is that you grab coffees to go! Santizer for customer use will be available at the till If you are not feeling well, please follow the government guidelines and stay home. Tuesday to Sunday we have adjusted our hours to 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (we will remain closed Monday). Everything right now, is subject to change.
