This post just went viral on Tik Tok, soni figured I'd share it here. . Oftentimes when people go into a new workout plan, they're really excited. They want to work out everyday. They want to go really hard. They want to lose 10 lb of body fat almost immediately. . To those people, I would just say this. Slow down. It's not a race. It's not a sprint. It's more like a really slow marathon where your time doesn't matter. You just need to make it to the finish line. That's it.... . Slow down. Take a breath. Start simple. This is why you need to eat more apples. And not just apples, but all fruit. . Did you know, the average person eats 1-2 servings of fruits and vegetables per day? Do you know how many servings you should have? A minimum of 5. . I eat apples as a staple of my diet because they require zero preparation, are extremely cheap, and I enjoy them. It's literally that simple.... . No, apples are not going to cause you to lose weight. They are not going to "fight cancer" or any of that other bullshit. . BUT consuming more fruit is linked to a lower risk of chronic disease. It is also linked to weight-loss, better digestive health, and less nutrient deficiencies. . There are ZERO0 foods that create weight-loss. There are ZERO foods that, when consumed in a vacuum, will improve your health. . What you need to do is to CONSISTENTLY, and regularly - eat a healthy diet. Adequate protein (0.5-1.0 grams per pound of your bodyweight), consume adequate but not excessive calories, lots of fruits & veggies, and probably not too much saturated fat. . It literally is that simple . . . . #fitness #weightloss #fatloss #positivity #strengthforall #positivechange #healthandfitness #wellness #tiktokfitness #fit #womenshealth #mensfitness #womensfitness #menshealth #jonnyreps #weightwatchers #keto #vegan #faddiets #abs #supplements See more

Monday's...am I right? . Mondays can really suck. Some of my Mondays lately have been really good lately. Others, not so much. Especially during this pandemic, I've been having massive ups and massive downs. . When it comes to training, I would say the biggest and most consistent thing that can keep me on an upward trajectory is just showing up. Just show up. It's really that simple sometimes.... . I go through this with clients all the time. It's better to have a half-assed workout than to miss your workout. Is missing one workout really a big deal? No it's not. But every time you miss a workout you're that much more likely to miss your next workout. . You also can't make up for lost time. Your body doesn't get like extra muscle hypertrophy stimulus from doing a bunch of workouts you missed the previous week. The body doesn't work like that. . So if there's one thing I'm thinking about this Monday, it's just showing up. God knows I've been doing that day in and day out for the last five plus years ever since I started trainering people. Keep showing up, and eventually something will happen. . . . #fitness #motivation #mondays #personaltrainer #weightloss #weightwatchers #american #bodyweightworkout #changeyourmindset #doit #easyworkout #easystarts #fit #getstarted #health #instafit #jonnyreps #ketosucks #loseweight #mindset #noexcuses #onlinefitness #positivity #quarantineworkout #timemanagement #workout See more

Collagen protein is something that's been getting more and more popular lately. Let's talk about it. Collagen proteins are found throughout the body. In fact, it is the protein most abundantly found in ligaments, tendons, skin, and muscles. Because of this, one may theorize that supplementing collagen protein would improve your skin, tendons, muscles, etc. . And it seems like yes, indeed, supplementing collagen protein does improve these in some respects. However,... when compared to literally any other type of protein, collagen falls short. . It turns out that just because your body has a lot of collagen, doesn't mean that collagen protein is the most usable source for rebuilding these structures. . Collagen actually has very poor bioavailability. This means that when your body digests collagen, it does not use as much of a percentage of that protein for rebuilding structures as it would for whey or literally any other type of protein . Studies the do show benefits of collagen are often performed vs people having inadequate protein intake as a control group. Likely, if people were to have adequate protein intake, or to supplement with literally any other type of protein other than collagen, they would probably get comparable or better benefits. . Don't buy the hype, don't waste your money. The truth is out, but it's been out for years. Facts are facts, and sometimes they aren't sexy . . The fact of the matter is, you cannot lose weight unless you're in a calorie deficit. First law of thermodynamics - energy cannot be created or destroyed. Therefore, you need to ingest less energy than you utilize in order to reduce your weight. . None of the things listed here do that. None of them have any effect on fat loss or changing your calorie intake. Anyone who tell...s you they can is lying to you . Literally the only way to lose fat is calorie deficit. Period. . Correlation =/= causation. Lots of people have done the keto diet and lost weight. Lots of people have done belly wraps, and belly creams, and ab workouts and lost weight. However, none of these things were the cause of their weight-loss. The cause was calorie deficit. . How do I know this? Because calorie intake and weight has been stueidetsd nauseam. And there has never been a single shred of evidence to show that it isn't the root mechanism of weight-loss. . Now, the question of why YOU in particular are having a hard time achieving a calorie deficit. That's a harder questions for a longer post. Maybe I should write an article... . Anyway, have a great day! . . . #abs #torontopersonaltrainer #jonnyreps #funfitness #abs #diet #makechange #positivity #positively #fitguys #fitgirls #noexcuses #movemore #workinprogress #weightloss #fitspiration #familyfitness #ketosucks #health #nutrition #wellness #getabs #absecrets #core #coretraining #loseweight #absofsteel #motivation #fitness #fatloss #calories See more

Check out my latest episode of Strength For All, going live at noon today (link in description). . Here we have Johnny Buck (@johnnybuck2) talking about guard pullers and butt scooters. Butt scooting is a "technique" in Jiu-Jitsu or other combat sports where you basically lay on your back on the mat and wait for your opponent to make a move. Guard pulling is basically falling over on your back on purpose so you can take your opponents arm. Doing stuff like this is generally f...rowned upon, and makes for weird and boring looking fights. Plus as a competitor, I can see how it would be extremely frustrating. . We discuss about a dozen other great fitness and MMA related topics. By far one of my favorite guests. Johnny Buck has a massive personality and it definitely shows in this podcast. . I'm currently 134th in Canadian Fitness podcasts, woo woo! Let's get that up to 133rd before the day is done, my friends. . . . #podcast #fitnesspodcast #mma #brazilianjiujitsu #buttscoot #guardpull #training #ufc #judo #catchwrestling #jonnyreps #fitness #strengthtraining #mensfitness #menshealth #womensfitness #womenshealth #sexualtyrannosaurus #strengthforall #entertainment #factsaboutmma #guard #mmapodcast #joerogan #combatsports #generalfitness #canadian #american See more

All the time I hear it. "I'm going to wait until this happens". "Now's not a good time". "I don't have the time to do that". . I think knowing your limits and making boundaries is very, very important. But if all you have are boundaries and limits, you're limiting yourself. There's a lot of progress that you can make without going "all in." . And really, that's what stops you from making progress. I don't think I've ever had a single successful client who goes "all in...." They go in as far as they need to go in order to make progress. And then build off of that. . Here's some examples of some things you can do that are not going "all in". And it's almost easier to do these than it is to not do them. . 1.) Drink water. Yes, water consumption on its own does not make you lose weight. But it can displace calories that may have come from a different beverage. You need to stay hydrated and drink anyway, and it really doesn't take you any time. . 2.) Journal your thoughts. What do you think is helping you? What do you think is holding you back? You don't have to actually take any action. Just getting stuff down helps the mental aspect, and helps start to pinpoint barriers you might not have realized. . 3. Watch to a YouTube video (or read a post like this one!). Listen to a podcast (hey, I have one of those too!). Stuff that is related to fitness, but involves things that you are actually interested in is freaking great. It helps you get the foot in the door, and stay entertained. Fitness should be fun, not stressful! . 4. Collaborate. Post your own workout video. Message your friend and ask them to do a Zoom workout with you. Group work and interactions with others are so important for mental and physical health. Especially now when we're very isolated because of covid. . Any other ideas? What's holding you back? Want abs? Demotivated with your lack of progress? Check this out. . Sometimes you focus on the type of stuff that's not going to work. You might not even know you're doing it. A lot of this stuff might seem like common sense. Like "if I do a lot of cardio I'll get abs, right?" "I'll burn fat". "Crunches build abs". Not really. . The fact of the matter is, the top line stuff in this infographic is a million times more important than the bottom line stuff. Stuff like compound l...ifts, good nutrition, and consistency are indispensable when it comes to building your core and also leaning yourself out enough to have physically viewable abs. . The other stuff? Not so much. I have yet to see someone get abs from only doing cardio. Or from only training when they feel like it. Cheat days are stupid and pointless, because if you're eating properly and in a healthy, sustainable manner, you don't need no damn cheat days. . You can't substitute anything for consistency. Have you done all of the top line stuff consistently for 6 months to a year? And you still don't have abs? Doubt it. You haven't done it. Because of you did, you'd be either there, or be well on your way there. You need to do these simple things, rather than looking for the next quick fix. . Anyway, I hope this is helpful and maybe helps you reframe your mentality when it comes to building your abs and making them pop. If it doesn't help you, perhaps send it to someone who is struggling with this type of goal. . Thanks for the support have a great day. . . . #abs #torontopersonaltrainer #jonnyreps #funfitness #abs #diet #makechange #positivity #positively #fitguys #fitgirls #noexcuses #movemore #workinprogress #weightloss #fitspiration #familyfitness #ketosucks #health #nutrition #wellness #getabs #absecrets #core #coretraining #loseweight #absofsteel #motivation #fitness #weightwatchers See more

I will tell you more. This month, I've decided to work on my abs. I'm going to do this by eating candy bars every day. . I'm not talking about fun sized either. I will be eating a full-size Twix / Snickers / Mars Bar every day for 4 weeks. I plan on losing 4-6 pounds during this time. . The goal of this challenge is to illustrate two things. 1) Calorie deficit is king. You can literally eat anything you want and still lose weight if you are in a calorie deficit. And 2) having... things you enjoy in your diet and still losing weight isn't just simply possible, it's OPTIMAL. .
