#TBT Throwin' all the way back to Feb '05 playin' at the now defunct Clinton's Tavern in Toronto. The photo isn't great (sorry) - but capturing digital imagery back then was a little bit of a task. This was one of the last shows played with this band - another memorable one... Quiet crowd, great stage sound, fun time!!!... Will miss that venue, Will miss that band! #Nostalgia

Pretty damn marvelous time last night at Sip club! Big Ups & Thank you's to all of you wonderful people who were there for the Saturday night awesomeness that was part of the Black Oak and Great Lakes Tap Take Over Weekend at Sip Club! Thanks to The Speakeasies for rockin' everyone's socks off!!... (wicked set list guys!) & A very special shout out, high five, hug & Thank you to my friends Hilary & Dewey for putting together such a great team and creating such a welcoming environment for events like this to happen. Hittin' the stage tonight around 8pm at Sip club and openin' up for my very favorite musical pals The Speakeasies! It'll be a solo appearance on my part for this round... Can't help but reminisce though... Its been 10 full years since we played the Hillside Festival together. 10 years!! I've got the feels!... More on that memory to come... In the meanwhile, its my last official weekend at Black Oak Brewing friends, and we've got some great tunes to help wash delicious bevies down in to your belly! Another #SundayShare. Reflecting back on some heartbreak that congealed into a handful of therapeutic scripts n tunes for me. This specific tune was written while renting the top two floors of a fancy old historical building in the far east of T.O. with a couple pals. ... The building had previously at one point housed the original 12th fret guitar shop and for sure still felt like it had some music left in it! The second floor had a wicked lil indoor solarium type thing which just happened to be off of my bedroom... the third floor had a beautiful wood cottage thing goin' on... A pretty groovy space all around and I wrote frequently while chewin' out lots of vocal lines in there. With this one in particular, I really was havin' a hard time makin' a decision on where that vocal line would comfortably sit. Ride that falsetto?? Aim high for the big voice?? It changed often and still does when I play it live depending on how I feel as I get in to each verse. Also, there was (still is :-) this issue where if I hadn't warmed up, my hand it would cramp up and burn like hellfire playin' those chords... A bit of an oldie for me now, the track was released in rough form a couple times between '03 & '07 before making the final cut with the ultimate decisions on the vocal lines for the '08 Beyond the Stars record. Helpin' out on guitar way back then: Mr. Ryan Naglemakers, with Mr. Jeremy Rice on bass, Mr. Lucas Mailing on skins & Mr. Shane Scott at the helm. A #SundayShare: "With Respect to a Liar" One of my favorite and lesser known tracks from the '08 album "Beyond the Stars" is a tune that hasn't been played live since well before the album's official release. (Why?? - that's a longer story for another time)... Recorded at Baseline Studio in Scarborough, ON. some time around 2005/06 w/producer Shane Scott at the helm and pals Jeremy Rice, Lucas Mailing & Ryan Naglemakers bangin' out the beats. It seems like forever ago, but I remember that we were really focused on getting a big sound out of the drums for this track so we opened all the doors and space we could in the cosy wood panelled bsmt studio and then put mics all over the place to catch every little resonating spec. If yer givin' this one a listen, turn 'er up a bit and see if you can catch some of the attack on those skins! Now try to imagine how we got that big sound out of a 8x12 bsmnt studio room!
