Journey To Conquer Cancer 01.09.2020

I remember Christmas around 2016, I wanted to give up. Id get sick with every round of chemo, but my wife showed me a picture of my kids and said Do it for them, so I did. Steve Margoronis was working with his dad at the family butcher shop when he started to have back issues. Despite trying different treatments, his pain and symptoms only got worse. It turns out that Steves back issues were caused by Stage 4 Burkitts lymphoma. The tumour was very aggressive, and Stev...e endured rounds of chemotherapy, but his family was with him through it all, and his wife spent endless hours at the hospital. When Steve and his wife read about the Journey to Conquer Cancer, they saw it as something the whole family could do together. For the past three years, theyve raised funds and donated themselves. Each year, I put aside whatever I can afford to from work, to give back, says Steve. Without The Princess Margaret, I wouldnt be here today. Everyone who participates in the Journey To Conquer Cancer event has a story and wed love to hear yours. You can tag us in a post or share it with us directly by emailing [email protected] If you havent already registered, theres still time to join us on October 4th. Journey To Conquer Cancer 15.06.2020

In Spring of 2019 Simon started experiencing signs of pulsatile tinnitusthe subtle sound of blood rushing past his ears when lying down which turned into visual symptoms, rings of light, unshakeable headaches and episodes of tunnel vision. On the day of his 23rd birthday, he got a call from his neurologist telling him he had a small mass in the centre of his brain. By July he was in surgery for a biopsy and a procedure to bypass the blockage caused by the tumour, by esse...ntially punching a hole in the bottom of his third ventricle to allow fluid to move through to the spine. Luckily, it was successful. His symptoms quickly faded, and he was ready for radiation. He says hell never forget having his radiation mask made or the strange smell that he experienced as soon as the beam turned on during treatments. Simon is now on a monitoring schedule with regular MRIs and so far, the tumour hasnt shown any signs of growth. A year after finding out about his brain tumour, he decided he was ready to tell the world about his journey and started fundraising. He is now just a little over $1000 dollars away from his $5000 goal! His team name? Beam On. To learn more about how to start a Facebook fundraiser like Simon, visit the Journey website where we have an easy step-by-step tutorial. https://runorwalk.ca/Toronto/FUNDRAISING #fundraisingtips #ConquerCancer #CancerJourney #cancersucks #runorwalk #1km #3km #5km
