Remember, the powerful are still not able to control what people think, and are limited for now on restricting what we can say and do. We have room to expand the proportion of people that contribute positively to the world."

I had to deal with the impact of facing criminal charges incurred because I didn’t want to be murdered . . . At the end of the day, I know this system won’t believe me or protect me. I want something better for myself, for my daughter, and for my community.: Elissa Robertson. https://journeymagazineptbo.com//elissas-story-criminally/

"I remember from time to time a PM or some high official formally apologized for the bad treatment of the First Nations. But if they know about the wrongdoing, and they admit to it, then why are they still not treating these people as true citizens of this country? Why are they still living in such difficult circumstances? I feel mortified to see how people live their comfortable lives and do not know anything about this situation, or if they do know, they sure don’t care." https://journeymagazineptbo.com//why-do-many-indigenous-c/

It is deeply gratifying as a journalist when a story you have written contributes in some way to the fight for awareness and social justice. Today, during a submission by the Ontario Health Coalition to the Ontario government's Standing Committee on Justice Policy on Bill 218, executive director, Natalie Mehra, read aloud an abridged version of "A Mother/Daughter Story of Pandemic Grief in Long-Term Care" published by JOURNEY Magazine Ptbo Oct. 15. It tells the story of a mother and daughter's anguished sojourn through the long-term care (LTC) system in a Peterborough-area LTC home. JOURNEY Magazine was honoured and privileged to share their story.

"There were 30 residents in Margaret’s wing, and only one or two personal support workers assigned at a time. At one point, Margaret was crying in pain on the phone for two hours. When he daughter called the nursing station to try and get help, she said they told her they were too busy with other residents and hung up." https://journeymagazineptbo.com/2020/10/15/18741/
