When it’s too nice out, you’re in March Break ‘vacation’, and you have a Webinar to give, following a beautiful hike with your peeps. I’m a formal (paid) and informal (unpaid) caregiver. I feel fortunate that I can give these Caregiver Talks as a collaboration between Wellspring Toronto and KensingtonHealth. Caregiver burnout has always been concern. However today with the pandemic is at another level of risk. In this episode I speak to the immeasurable impact of COVID-19 on caregiver stress, whether it be financial, emotional, practical, or psychological. For more webinars and resources visit Wellspring.ca and Kensington.org. #wellspringtoronto #kensingtonhealth #caregivers #ontariocaregiverorganization #staysafe

Brighten and illuminate your path using your strengths on a daily basis. Look for clues to what energizes you and how you can do more of what you love for the person you support and care for.

Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength. To those who have taken the t...ime to support, respect and advocate for women's movements, I thank you, and the daughters of the world thank you. To my friends and colleagues who made a point to reach out on a personal level, I'm grateful. I am able, because of those who support feminism and its true form, to be exactly what a woman should be: who and what she wants... And my little ladies, because of the determination and anti oppression mindsets of men and women before and today, they will have that too. Happy International Womens Day!

Given the impact COVID-19 has on all of us, I’m especially grateful to be part of the North York Toronto Health Partners Pandemic Staff Wellness Retreat, as the keynote speaker. It’s a necessary and imperative event to supporting professionals providing care during this unprecedented time. My hope is that other regions follow suit for their colleagues and caregivers! #northyorktorontohealthpartners #covid_19 #wellness #hospice #palliativecare #healthcanada #kensingtonhealth #grief #traumainformed #betterlivinghealthandcommunityservices

Today is Children’s Grief Awareness Day! The stats surrounding children experiencing a loss, death, grief and trauma are astounding. Let’s bring the topic out of the shadows of phobia, fear, and marginalization. I invite you to have a conversation about children’s grief today. #childrensgrief #oneconversation #cgadhope

Why did we need a pandemic to explore accessibility, equity, diversity and a Trauma Informed approach to Caregiver Support? We need to be more creative and diverse in how we create a greater accessibility to supports for BOTH informal and formal caregivers. Grateful for the opportunity to present with my esteemed colleague today Nadine Persaud at the HPCO One Day Virtual Conference. #hpco2020 #caregiversupport #kensingtonhealth #traumainformed #covid_19

In every corner of social services we have to mindful of implicit biases and racist undertones. This is especially imperative when providing grief support to children. I’m very honoured to be part of an organization that is exceptionally progressive in its Antiracist practices while utilizing a Culturally Humble approach. I’ll presenting at our annual Grief Symposium on this topic. To listen to more: https://bit.ly/2T4Udek #childrensgrief #antiracism #diversity #inclusion #equality #culturalhumility

For those who have asked, I am in no way associated with this workshop. The providers have not ‘trained with me’ nor have they attended any of my workshops, instead copied my flyer including the picture and text from the my workshop at Joshua Creek and used it as their own. Thank you to those who reached out to let me know what’s being communicated. This workshop is being facilitated through Amanda R Riley Professional Psychotherapy Services and Désirée Key of Pure Love Reiki

Southern Ontario is the most diversely populated geography in the world. Within our demographics there are exceptional variances in how our communities navigate the journey of death, dying, grief, bereavement, and trauma. We need to employ more progressive and effective approaches to engagement at end-of-life, such as Cultural Humility and Trauma Informed Care, if we are to truly be accessible to ALL Canadians! Thank you to a legendary Hospice, Ian Anderson House, for inviting this learning for their staff and volunteers, and for demonstrating a depth of leadership needed to forge a new way forward in this beautiful field of service. #hospice, #traumainformed, #palliativecare, #hpm, #cdnhealth, #hpco, #grief, #commuity

Honoured to be presenting tomorrow at the SCHC Palliative Care Conference of 2020, ‘The Becoming’. In our work within the multitude of Hospice and Palliative Care settings, we are engrossed daily in the lives of clients, patients, residents, families and caregivers. How we experience the stories of the people we serve influences who we are, how we manage, and what we become. Its a measure of self-care when we explore how our own story grows and develops from our work, how it influences our well being, and what strategies we can employ to secure our care for ourselves. #hpco2020 #palliativecare #schcontario #selfcare #becoming

I’m very excited to be presenting this imperative topic tomorrow at the BON conference, given the social and societal inequities the plague us today, for which Grief and Bereavement supports are not immune. We NEED to take a stance and action of Anti-racism within the supports we provide if we are truly to be accessible and effective to ALL people of Canada For more info: https://bereavementontarionetwork.ca/conference/ #bereavementsupport #bereavement #hpco2020 #hospice #antiracism #blm #culturalhumility #Bon2020virtual

In celebration of Canadian Multiculturalism Day, Lighthouse for Grieving Children honours the incredibly rich diversity within our surrounding communities. We... also acknowledge the disparities and inequities that exist within our regional demographics, and we have responded by fostering initiatives and programming which are guided by culturally humble and anti-racist policy and practice. Led by our mission that ‘no child should grieve alone’, we launched our Multicultural Outreach Program early to help gain a greater understanding of the barriers to accessing its support services, while building partnerships and interfaith understanding. Read our article about Cultural Humility when supporting a grieving family, it addresses key topics such as: How do we become comfortable with not knowing all the answers? How do we practice cultural humility? What are some key questions we can ask a child/youth who’s grieving? https://bit.ly/3dAWndD #culturalhumlity #antiracism #diversity #blacklivesmatter #indigenouslivesmatter
