In the best interest of my personal mental well-being, and what I know to be best for my family, I made the decision to leave the masters of counselling program. It has been a really rough six months for me, and I am looking forward to taking it easy for the next little while. In the meantime I am very grateful to have more to give to my kids, my self, my amazing girlfriend, and my job at North Van Arts. I am choosing happiness.

I am looking forward to teaching Mindfulness Through Art Journaling online via Zoom again this spring through @northvanarts This is what one of my previous students said about this class: Joyelle Brandt’s Mindful Art Journalling class is so needed in our community right now. As a teacher, artist and partner, it is hard to get in personal learning and art practice time in ideal circumstances, let alone during a world pandemic. Joyelle led intentionally with a calm, solid pres...ence and supported the flow both verbally and musically with grace. The class left me feeling positive, grounded and full of hopeful creativity for the upcoming week. Thanks for making this possible, accessible and inclusive for so many folks! -Theresa If you are feeling overwhelmed and need to take some time out for yourself, this is a great chance to unwind and find some inner peace. Isn’t it amazing how when a white man acts out the hate that is inherent in a culture of oppression that his acts are always excused by some convenient excuse that has nothing to do with patriarchy or colonialism? It isn’t a bad day, or a sex addiction, or a mental health issue. It’s just hate. #stopasianhate #stopviolenceagainstwomen

You don’t have to be strong today Put down your armor the fight is long... and you are weary You don’t have to smile today tell the grocery clerk just how fine you are while the panic rises in your chest You don’t have to paint your pain make it pretty so it’s more palatable so you’re more palatable You don’t have to You don’t have to You don’t #iwd2021 See more

This book just had its 3 year anniversary. Hard to believe, and yet this past three years has brought so much learning and growth. After completing my trauma recovery coach training and now starting my masters of counselling, I know there is so much more learning to come. Feeling grateful for the amazing community of survivors who I have met along this journey. @healwritenow @dawndaum @emilyreaddaniels @lauraparrottperry #parentingwithptsd #traumarecovery #traumarecoverycoach #healingtrauma #childhoodabuse

Women gonna rise like the water, gonna shut oppression down. I hear the voice of my great grand-daughter, saying fight for me, fight for me now. Lyrics from the song Warrior by @heathermaemusic #womanrise #originalart #covidcreativity #artheals #smashthepatriarchy

Understanding that you are not alone as a parenting survivor of childhood trauma can make all the difference. We are often trapped in a cycle of shame that stops us from speaking about this topic, but when we connect with other survivors our struggles become shared burdens, and we can move toward healing together. If you are struggling to parent as a survivor of childhood abuse, visit www.parentingwithptsd.com for resources and information. #childhoodabuse #traumasurvivor #traumahealing #traumarecovery

Trees exhale for us so that we can inhale them to stay alive. Can we ever forget that? Let us love trees with every breath we take until we perish." Munia Khan #lovenature

This past year has been an exercise in learning to trust myself more deeply than I ever have. To listen to my inner knowing, to follow my desires and trust in them. It’s a journey I want to continue as I start my Masters in Counselling program. Trust that this is happening exactly when it is supposed to. Trust that I have the resources to manage school, work and parenting, while still finding joy in a dance party or couch snuggle. This collage will be my reminder to have fait...h in my dreams, and in my own capability to achieve them. . Thank you to @lynn_giunta and Megan Haave for the collage and mantra workshop this morning that led to the creation of this piece and to @flow_magazine for the gorgeous patterned papers . . . #collageart #hallmarket #mantra #trustyourself See more
