Joyful Meadow 13.02.2021

Joyful Meadow QN Beautyberry graced us with some cute little babies! Wonderland MM Golden Sage is the sire. Beautyberry is a great mom and looks very promising! She gave us twins - a buckling and a polled doeling. Both have blue eyes too as a fun bonus!

I’m glad that this winter seems to be more mild so far, especially for the winter kiddings!

It was a beautiful fall day today. Windy, but sunny, and the sky was striking. I’m so busy lately, but was able to spend some time in the pasture with my loves

A beautiful evening in the pasture

Why yes, this is a baby almost as big as her dam still nursing she’s a little bit chubby from all the milk, but I don’t mind as her line gets a little chubbier when dry and milks it all off.

I’ve been happy watching Joyful Meadow QN Beautyberry mature. She has such loose dairy skin! She reminds me a lot of her aunt, Noisette. The two are becoming more like twins every day. Beautyberry is still smaller than her and has a darker shade of gold, but at a quick glance, they are easy to confuse! Noisette becomes a darker gold in the summer when not shaved, so she’s currently darker than in her official shaved photos. She then turns lighter gold in the winter. BeautyBerry was born a light gold in the winter and turned dark. I don’t know if she’ll go back to light gold in the winter, but I hope she keeps her dark colour! I don’t select based on colour, but I do find it fun that this breed has so many colour possibilities.

So I did something a little crazy... I changed up some breeding plans and bred Joyful Meadow TT Musique to Wonderland MM Sage and Bedrock N Brambles Framboise to Fairlea Tom Tomson EX 91. They both came into heat yesterday and I guess I got baby fever, lol. So they are both due in February! We’ve had a few winter kiddings so far, including Framboise last January, so we have our routine to keep the kids warm and cozy. You can view the updated breeding schedule here: https://www.joyfulmeadow.com/breeding-schedule.html

Who wants to play match the doe to her kid(s)? Without checking! Some does may more than one kid retained, others none right now. The does and kids are numbered. Which numbers should be matched?

Our field is full of wild carrots! Pretty to see the flowers, but they are taller than the goats and the goats disappear into the the flower once we are further away!
