The Ontario Ministry of Health informed us that they are unable to interpret regulations from the government of Ontario so we took a stab at it. @frank.scarpitti and @paulcalandra can you let us know how we did? We’re happy to announce that Joyride 150 will be opening Canada’s first cycling Supermall! Your next retail appointment can be booked online, securing a safe shopping experience with limited customers.... While booking online please select which department you would like to browse. Only ten customers will be permitted per department. For your safety our overall capacity is far below the provincial guidelines for similar retail establishments. You can also rest assured that our location will be cleaned and sanitized several times a day and between all retail sessions. At the Joyride 150 Supermall we ask that our customers bring their bikes to speed up their shopping experience. We’ve built a variety of speed augmenting ramps to assist with this process. As a reminder masks are mandatory at all times, and customers will be screened upon entry. We aim to offer a safe, fun, and unique shopping experience to our customers during this pandemic. Keep checking back on our social media for our grand opening date! We hope to open less than 28 days from now. Yes of course we know this pandemic is real, but the regulations in this current ‘lockdown’ just don’t make sense! Small businesses, especially those based around fitness and personal care have time and time again been the first to get shut down. Big box stores, and large retail facilities however continually get exceptions and the provincial ok to operate at a 'reduced' capacity and lenient restrictions. @fordnationdougford can you help explain why malls can be open to thousands while fitness based small businesses like ours are mandated shut. Does Dave look a little lonely? We think so too. How long will it take for the Government of Ontario to value indoor recreation as much as it does retail shopping? This is how our facility looks with just ten people inside. In the Red Zone retail facilities are permitted to open to 50% of their maximum capacity. For a big box store that’s an average 400 persons or more. ... Meanwhile all indoor recreation facilities are capped at just 10 people regardless of physical size. For our over one hundred thousand square foot facility that is just 2.2% of our maximum capacity. We just can’t make sense of such a massive difference, can you? Joyride 150 has been committed to the safety of our community and staff since the start of this pandemic. We’ve added hand sanitizers, touchless entry, and social distancing reminders throughout our park. Every rider checks both in and out so we have an accurate contact tracing list and we’ve added three additional scheduled cleaning times on top of what was already a through cleaning regimen. If retail shopping can be done safely during this pandemic then indoor recreation can be as well. Meanwhile retail establishments can have capacity limits way into the 100s, while following far fewer safety protocols. Once again the disparity is extremely hard for us to understand as a small business committed to the safety of our staff and patrons. Well we've got some good news.... As of February 22nd York Region will enter into the 'Red-Control' level of the province's reopening plan which means @shoptheboilerroom will be open to customers Monday - Saturday 10-6! However at this time Joyride 150 will remain closed while we try and navigate the ten person capacity restriction currently imposed on our facility.... It’s the first Monday of 2021 and we hope all of you had a great holiday season despite these trying circumstances. Just like in the spring of 2020, during this shutdown we are reviewing all of our health and safety policies to ensure that when we reopen we will be doing so as safely as possible. While we do our part to ensure a safe riding environment we hope that the policy makers in the Ontario Government also do theirs and revisit the operating guidelines for gyms and ind...oor recreation facilities in Ontario. Currently every indoor recreation facility is painted with the same brush, regardless of physical size. Joyride 150proudly has a footprint of over 100, 000 square feet. Yet according to current Ontario provincial guidelines, when the lockdown ends and York Region returns to RED control status, Joyride 150 will only be permitted to allow TEN riders into our facility. If we were a retail facility of the same square footage we’d be able to welcome at least 125 customers at a time. The disparity between the rulesets for gyms/indoor recreation facilities, and retail facilities is very difficult to understand. When open our lounge is fogged three times a day, our rental equipment is fogged & used only once a day, we clean regularly, participate in contact tracing, limit food/drink, and effectively enforce capacity limits. Finally we mandated fulltime mask use even when it was not required by our region for physical activity. Despite our best efforts we are still forced to operate at a drastically different standard than retail facilities that often do far less to protect their patrons. As we continue to look for ways to make our facility safer, we encourage all of our riders to join us in reaching out to their local members of provincial parliament asking them to think critically about the guidelines they are imposing on ALL business both large and small. COVID-19 is a serious issue, and we are more than willing to do our part, but we would like to be able to do so while also contributing to bettering the physical and mental well being of our local community by opening safely to a proportional capacity.
