How does a non-freeze hose bib freeze??!! Improper installation of the hose bib AND insulation. Non-freeze hose bibs are available in different lengths to ensure that the water gets shut off on the warm side of the insulation (see last pic). This home owner was fortunate that the pipe burst after the valve stem, otherwise they would have had a large insurance claim for water damage in the basement!
