SHIFT Covid has taken its toll on small business. Many businesses we used to take for granted , restaurants , pubs , small retail shops , have suffered and have closed for good. Perhaps overlooked is the devastation suffered to the entertainment industry and all of the people that rely on it for their livelihoods. Ian Lee and his wife/partner Sarah worked tirelessly to build a successful tour bus company from the ground up. Pre-Covid their buses were filled with touring ac...ts and crossing both North America and Europe bring us our favourite musical groups. It was about this time last year that their world came to an abrupt halt. I sat across from Ian enjoying a far too infrequent visit when the TV in the corner of our 'official " meeting room ( Riverside Tavern ) announced travel from Europe was going to cease at midnight. Ian's wife Sarah was on tour in Europe and unsure if and when she would be able to get home . All events on the tour had been cancelled without warning and she was essentially stranded. I sat listening to Ian make call after call trying to handle the chaos that was happening to their world. Thankfully, she was ultimately able to secure a flight home . Since that night Affordable Tour Solutions has been in limbo waiting for restrictions to ease and live music to return. However this , is not an obituary by any stretch. Rather it is a tale of entrepreneurial spirt , of the power of creativity and of the fortitude to adapt in the most difficult times. In a matter of days Affordable Tour Solutions shifted its business model incorporating cross country relocation services . That success spun off and they began offering "unique vacation and travel experiences" and more recently shuttle services for the mining industry .
