The last cold spell has made a few backyard glaciers. Make sure you check on your hot tub once every 2 days in cold weather. Most tubs only take 72 hours of no power in cold temperatures to freeze lines. Nothing annoys me more than self proclaimed pool professionals who don't take the time to check out the system fully before recommending a course of action. This was a customer who was frustrated with the lack of flow but relied on techs to help him resolve it. One of the big pool companies in town sent out their high mucky muck who had installed a 400k btu hayward heater previously. Rather than check the system out while there he decided to simply recommend replacing the c...urrent intelliflo pump running at 2450 rpm. According to him it was to small to run the system... Within 10 mins of arriving i not only found this issue which was sneaky as the psi only jumped to 12 from 9. I also spent 40 minutes hosing off these filters which were caked with dirt, birch fluff and dandelion fluff to the point it looked like a 5th filter was in the middle. Persistent low flo on hayward heater removed and a happy customer not shelling out thousands for a new intelliflo. Moral of the story is if your in the business take the time to properly inspect. The customer relies on us to be honest, forthright and give them the best course of action to take to resolve the issue. As the old adage goes you can sheer a sheep many times but you can only skin it once. Don't skin your customers by being lazy... Keep an eye on your water level folks. Luckily this pump survived even though it was stopped dead by the heat moulded basket. Out with the old and inefficient (pic 1&2) In with the new...Complete piping and equipment rebuild removing all the old corrugated plastic piping/return/ equipment. Replaced with a nice clean 1.5" PVC, 1/2HP Hayward, Sta Rite 100LB sand filter and a new Pentair Heater. Was a lot of fun and will be completely easy to disassemble for easy winterizing storage of equipment. So to expand upon my last quick post heres a quick introduction. This is a Dimension One Spa the model being a Lotus Bay. Sadly another technician had attempted to winterize this spa and failed miserably. During diagnosis we found two small leaks and finally a major one once full. The ozonator was broken in half, the flow switch T was shattered and the four port manifold for one of the seats blew out its end cap. This required us putting it up on its side and digging as yo...u can see by the video in the comments. Luckily it was a big enough leak to be fairly obvious. After hunting for parts as 1" barbs are not that common up here we then begin the fixing process. The ozonator for now is bypassed until we can lay down this monster to water test again and make sure we have nipped all the leaks in the bud. Due to the current pandemic going on and the financial difficulties to come business wise we are sadly going to be cancelling the easter basket contest this year. As soon as it's safe enough to do so we will start back up. I really wish we could have done what I planned out (it was my most ambitious one to date). Never know what you get to see on a customer site. This is the second time I've witnessed a flameout in front of me. Smelled electrical burn as I opened the panel which is the universal smoke signal for technicians that something is horribly wrong. See first picture for what I found As I was taking the pictures for the client so that we could maintain safe distance I saw the wire flame out and seperate just like that. See second picture.... Last time I saw a flame out was on the main wire bridge from a loose connection. Twice in well over a decade of service definitely makes it a rarity.
