JSA’s Oshi! Congrats on finishing the Fall semester Today we are going to talk about Japanese comedy!!... Comedy is one of the important aspects of Japanese culture. We see comedians on TV everyday and there are several TV programs that feature comedy in Japan. In fact, Japan has a long tradition of comedy. For example, Kyogen and Rakugo are traditional forms of comedy Today, Manzai (double act comedy) and Konto (sketch comedy) are more common However, the Japanese sense of humor is quite unique and you might find it difficult to understand at first when you’re used to comedy style of other cultures. Last weekend, the M-1 Grand Prix was held This is one of the biggest Manzai competitions in Japan. The contestants go through several preliminary rounds and only 10 duos can reach the finals which will be broadcasted live on TV This competition can be a life-changing moment for some. Those who were highly admired through this competition will receive the chance to succeed in show business. This year’s champion was Magical Lovely()Their accomplishment is a splendid achievement since when they first advanced to the final round in 2017, they scored the lowest mark and received severe criticism by the judges. This is the link to the Manzai they performed in the final round this year https://youtu.be/kzwWBOmibyY The M-1 Grand Prix 2020 promo video: https://youtu.be/W7YgzCJMDQw Happy holidays everyone!! #jsa #m1 #

JSA’s Oshi! Hi everyone! Since Christmas is finally coming in a week, we will introduce how we celebrate Christmas in Japan! Often Christmas is considered to be a day to spend with loved ones in Japan. It could be a family or friends but young people tend to spend time with lovers. Since a family gathering is often hosted on New Year’s day, we treat Christmas as a romantic day.... During the Christmas season, illumination is a big thing in Japan. Every year, streets are lit up with a bunch of colourful lights and sometimes stores have big Christmas trees. They are beautiful and those sites sometimes become tourist spots that many couples would visit. In terms of food, some people like to eat KFC chickens because they don’t sell a big turkey in Japan. Eating KFC chicken party barrels as a Christmas meal has become a nationwide tradition and people might need to wait in long lines if they don’t order in advance. Here, we have some pictures of illuminations and a Christmas tree in Japan. The first 3 pictures are taken at one of the famous sites for illumination. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
