While we would have welcomed amendments to Resolution 04-10-20 (Justice and Peace in Israel-Palestine) at yesterday's NDP Convention, we believe it’s a workable framework that upholds the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security. Our full thoughts:

"We are writing you today not to offer an opinion on the legitimacy of the IHRA working definition... We are writing to express our concern that the NDP is indulging a debate over the terms of a marginalized group’s oppression." At the upcoming NDP Convention, a resolution condemning the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's Working Definition of antisemitism (IHRA WD) is poised to be debated. We articulate our thoughts on the matter in a letter sent to NDP Leader Ja...gmeet Singh last week. Our hope is that the party can address this topic in a more effective and less divisive way.

We are incensed to see PM Netanyahu (yet again) courting the support of far-right extremists. We refuse to normalize the presence of Kahanist politics - whether in Israel or in the Jewish diaspora. In 2019, we called on our community to reject Netanyahu's alliance with racist Kahanists. We reiterate that call today.

Today, we remember the atrocities which befell Muslim worshippers in Quebec City four years ago. Today, we recommit ourselves to combatting Islamophobia in all its forms. As Jews, we stand with Muslims in challenging systems of oppression that contribute to rising hate in Canada.

In the wake of the hate crime attack on the Shaar Hashomayim, conversations like this one are more needed than ever. Thank you, Ministers Bill Blair and Marco Mendicino, and MP Ya'ara Saks, for hosting us for this important dialogue.
