-- An actor's confession: On the last few gigs I've had... when an AD knocks on my trailer door to bring me to set, as I walk grounding myself with each step I... take, I think back to one night when I first moved to Toronto and I secretly shed some tears while working at Roots on Queen West, because I simply wanted to be doing what I love doing. In life, all work is worthy and dignified, but as I swept that floor to make rent at the end of that shift, I kept wishing for someone to just give me a chance to work in my chosen profession. That night I was really down, because I was forced to miss an audition, the manager wouldn't let me go during my lunch hour as I might not be back in time to continue my shift, (fair enough), it was one of the many reasons I ended up quitting that job and why I really appreciate those couple of managers I've had, that understood and knew the difference between a "joe-job" and a career... Nowadays, thinking back on those instances, it really helps me put life in perspective, to be grateful for what I have achieved, to not take these blessings for granted and to not lose sight of life goals when the blessings are taking their time to come. These bittersweet memories, allow me to ground myself, they help me realize that things bloom at their own pace and most importantly: when the director calls action, I need to be present and I have to make sure I sweep that floor as hard as I can, so then I will shed tears of satisfaction, pride and happiness...
