Jubilee Presbyterian Church, Stayner 29.03.2020

UPDATE: Dear Jubilee Family: The Session of Jubilee met this past Wednesday evening and have discerned the best course of action for our church family at this time is to wait until September 6th to resume public worship with two hopes in mind - first, that cases of COVID19 continue to remain low in Ontario and that there is not a sign of a second wave coming in the fall. This was not an easy decision to make. We thought about what worship would feel like: meeting together wit...h masks on in the heat, not being able to sing, and not being able to stay and socialize or have refreshments. We struggled with government recommending that only ten people gather. We thought about the reality that we are still in a state of emergency. We have considered that there are those of us who are vulnerable for different reasons and others who are working in the public, with greater risk of exposure and being symptomatic or asymptomatic carriers. While not an easy decision we believe it was the best decision. In the meantime, we hold all of you in prayer. If you have any questions or wish to talk, we welcome communication. Id be happy to meet with anyone over the phone or in person with safe "physically distance". We have all been through a difficult time - whether we call it isolation, distancing, quarantine, lock-down - and its not over. We are in a pandemic. I want to share that for me personally the range of emotions has been overwhelming. I did not feel I could write this letter on Thursday because I struggled with opening the church, I struggle with not opening the church... In this time, we are - "better safe than sorry" even though we have the greatest hope of all in our hearts through Christ. To lose one is one too many. Please stay safe & be safe. Reach out! With love and gratitude to all for your patience and understanding, Rev. May & The Session of Jubilee

Jubilee Presbyterian Church, Stayner 14.01.2020

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Dear Friends of Jubilee: The session met last night (June 10) via conference call to discuss steps moving forward in response to the Ontario Governments announcement on Monday June 8th that places of worship could re-open for worship at 30% seating capacity effective, for the Christian Church, this Sunday June 14th. After thoughtful discussion and conversation, the Session have agreed to a careful and cautious process for re-opening. Given that w...e cannot meet in gatherings of 10 until Friday at 12:01am, and that we would like meet at the church to visibly see how physical distancing and following careful protocols might work, we have decided not to rush into anything. We will be meeting at the church next Wednesday night (June 17th). We also want to prepare by acquiring the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (hand sanitizer, masks, appropriate signs in the appropriate spaces, markings for distancing etc.) We want to reopen safely and cautiously and we are also mindful that we all miss one another, and still, the pandemic is not gone we are learning how to adjust to life with it. We want to provide best practices to prepare you to be safe while you are here, as well as knowing that you are comfortable returning. We are also awaiting the Provincial Guidelines for Re-opening Churches Safely. We anticipate them at some point and want ensure that we are following the governments guidelines. For these reasons we have decided that public worship will not resume immediately and we will continue to offer online worship service. We will keep you informed of progress and continue to work as a session to ensure we are ready to re-open safely and cautiously. On a very personal and pastoral note, I just want to acknowledge that its OK to feel whatever you are feeling. Some will be disappointed we are not in church this Sunday. Some will feel relieved that there is no pressure to be expected to be there. Some will feel guilty because they feel that they should be in church. We have been through a challenging three months and there might be a temptation to think that its over. We are still in a pandemic; were just moving to a different phase. I know that Mondays announcement caught me off guard. Two weeks prior the school year was ended. We are jumping from gatherings of 5 to gatherings of 10. Funerals can still only have 10 attendees. The pandemic is fluid, changing and quite honestly it can be very confusing at times. So, as a Session we are committed to a safe and cautious approach. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this time. Yours in Christ, Rev. Darren May (with the blessing of the Session of Jubilee)
