Judy Brown Perth Election

Now that my door to door campaign is over, having visited 2000 households, I'd like to say that it's been great to get out and talk to you. I met lots of people who said: 'I've just moved here'. Perth is attracting lots of people who find this a very desirable place to live. People also commented that we need more recreational facilities, ranging from more trails to a salt water pool. As I said in my pamphlet, Perth has one of the most vibrant downtowns in Eastern Ontario (...98 % occupancy). It is also blessed with a number of very viable businesses and industries, small and large, which are thriving and expanding. I am therefore quite concerned that one of the Mayoral candidates in his pamphlet, has portrayed the Town as 'very much in danger' and says that 'the local economy is in decline.' This is simply UNTRUE. Perth is a thriving town, attractive to its residents, and its businesses and industries. McSweeney Consultants, recently described Perth's most attractive selling point as simply the way it looks. Perth doesn't need to be rescued from any calamity by a white knight in shining armour. All of us simply need to work together to build on what we already have.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Facebook has reminded me that I have not talked to you for a while, so here goes... Last week was a good one; I got to talk to lots of folks. Friday was my longest day, five hours spent going door to door. My leg muscles have mostly recovered. I find that this is worthwhile, to hear people's concerns and get their ideas about what the town needs. I will finish this week; I will be visiting folks in the southwest corner of town. I'll be starting in about an hour. Hope I don't interrupt anyone's Thanksgiving celebration.

It's a new week, and the sun is shining! Another great day to be out knocking on doors. So far, I've been around to over 1000 households, and talked to lots of folks. It's exhausting, but well worth it. I've been documenting your concerns, and collecting your ideas. I have acted on the things that I could, and will be bringing a list of ideas for the future to the new Council.

So, Facebook is promising that I can reach more people if I boost my last post again. This is a test. Do you think that Perth has adequate recreational facilities? If not, what would you like to see? Please don't answer if you did last week.

Today is the fourth day of my door to door campaign. Last week, I met lots of the folks in Perthmore, and got great ideas. Today, the plan is to visit Perthshire. Tomorrow, my 17-year-old grandson is coming with me, to get some community service hours, and perhaps learn a little about local politics.I hope to meet as many Perth folks as possible before the election, but if I miss you, and you want to chat, please feel free to contact me: [email protected]. The 2018 municipal election is October 22. I have decided to run for re-election to the Town council of Perth. I hope to knock on as many doors as possible in the upcoming few weeks, but if I miss you, and you want to chat, please contact me. A question: do you think Perth needs more recreation facilities?
