Inspired by Saioa Hernandez' performance of Abigaille in a 2019 production of Nabucco at the Verdi Altar in Parma, I composed this setting of Psalm 4 for Sopran...o Lead and a trio of a counter-Tenor, Tenor, and Baritone. This is also the first time that I applied sonata form to a Psalm. It mostly works. There are two parts of the piece I like. The ending and the appearance of the second theme. See more

Last week I shared out the sketch for my Counter-Tenor led Psalm 3 for a Weill Ensemble. This is the full orchestration. A simple orchestration that is built to... enhance the personal nature of the words. Some people have told me this one isn't bad. I'm not sure. But what I like about it is that it gave me excuse to read and learn everything I could about Zills or more commonly called 'Finger Cymbals.' They are used here to enhance the Moorish nature of the tune. See more

I love Counter-Tenors and when I sat to set Psalm 3 to music, the introspective nature of the statements within it, screamed to me that I should utilize the str...ange ethereal nature of my favourite type of human voice. So here is my piano sketch of Psalm 3. Picture a caravan on a desert night and you have what I was going for. The orchestration will follow. See more

Here's a piano sketch of Psalm 2 for Weill Ensemble. It features a Bass solo and Chorus. I used a rhythmic progression technique to create a thrusting feeling. I'm not sure I am much fond of this work. There's one or two bits I think work, but I actually think the piece is far too simple and monotonous. It also does not flow well; although the central theme has proved an ear worm for myself. The orchestrated version will follow

During this pandemic, where I am unable to produce any theatre, and I really hate videos of my work and things, I thought I would share out what I do in my pastime. Ever since high school I've been composing music; I do not claim to be a great composer, not even an adequate one, but I've been doing it for years. As you may know I've got 100 or so plays that are unproduced, un published, rot in the annals of my living space. I've only been making those since my undergrad. I've got triple the amount of scores. This is my first offering: Psalm 1 for Weill Ensemble. Of late, I've been studying the work of Kurt Weill and I decided, as a way to learn some of his concepts that I should apply them. So this is my application of the light and dark technique. #mundsmusic #expressionism #kurtweill #indiecomposer #music

Let's talk about liveness. In our current world, where presence is not feasible, how can theatre survive? It can survive by going dormant. I think we don't have to fret about if theatre will survive or if ZOOM will sublant theatre. People will still gather. We yearn to gather. Theatre has survived many pandemics and many pandemics in the modern age. Will we want to still be live in our world after this? Yes. We'll rush out the moment a vaccine is found and many will go to the theatre.

I've been writing a lot about Artistic Ego of late. My new play The Rangers Totentanz will, in part, deal with this problem. But here is another entry on the subject.
