Federal Government Responds That a Capital Gains Tax on Homes is Not Being Considered Gov. Rel. News 26 March 2021 In response to a recent editorial published in the Globe and Mail supporting the idea of a capital gains tax on a principal residence, TRREB, along with CREA and other Associations in our industry, came out in strong opposition to such a proposal. Others, such as a senior economist with RBC, have weighed in with support for policymakers to consider such a tax. ...Since we posted this update for Members, Toronto MP Adam Vaughan, Parliamentary Secretary for Housing to the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, has reached out to us to reaffirm that the federal government has no plans to consider introducing a home equity tax.
