Deciding something is important enough to take to Small Claims Court doesn't mean the matter will actually reach the Court stage. It may be settled at the mandatory Settlement Conference held prior to the Trial. Each matter is a different story.

The Law Society of Upper Canada has changed its name to the Law Society of Ontario. They are currently considering allowing licensed Paralegals to function within Family Law. At this time, details have not been revealed.

Paralegals are not allowed to act within Family Law or Estates. Preparing a Will or Power of Attorney are also prohibited areas of activity. We are allowed to represent individuals at Tribunals in Ontario, Small Claims Court, Provincial Offences Act representations such as The Highway Traffic Act charges. Be careful not to overlook taking prompt action when an entity such as the City, or other entity such as Canada Revenue Agency sends notification of an infraction or Re-assessment, respectively. If you do not fully comprehend the letter or notice you have been sent, seek a Paralegal's help to fully understand the situation so action can be taken when necessary in a timely manner.
