I own and operate a single-chair private hair studio called June Croken hairdresser on fire located in the downtown core for the past 12 years. As a solo stylist, I have implemented every personal protection measure for my own continued safety and for my valued clients. I wear a medical mask, a full face visor, an apron and gloves. Clients are required to fill out a waiver,... self-screen and then I pre-screen them with a temperature check, sanitizer and I provide a complimentary mask that adheres to their face for maximum protection. I work privately by appointment only so there are no other guests in my space unless it's a parent accompanying their child. I have my back fire escape door and window open for more natural airflow weather permitting and have purchased a molecule air purifier for maximum air quality. I request that all of my clients arrive with clean and dry hair which I either dry cut or re-wet with a water bottle and then they air-dry. A freshly laundered cutting cape is supplied to all of my guests. I have had to temporarily close my business doors twice since last year for a total of 8 months and counting as directed by the province. My bills are the same every month except I am not making any income. As the beauty community continues to be patient and adhere to our government's direction we are going into more debt that will take years to pull ourselves out of. Our industry is not a source of the spread of this virus. We are licensed professionals who have endless training in safety protocols in the prevention and control of infectious disease. We also are inspected by Toronto Public Health annually to ensure we are fulfilling all of those public safety measures. As a valued part of the Toronto hairdressing/barber community, I am requesting that you re-open our safe salons so that we may be granted the right to contribute to rebuilding our economy as well as providing some much-needed wellness.
