Hannah and I are coming to the end of our breastfeeding time together and I am feeling all the feels this week. Wet and sore! Excited to pick my clothes not based on boob accessibility. Sorrow over this time coming to an end (still doing lots of skin on skin snuggles). Freedom! Guilt (Hannah's first signed and spoken word was boob, this is breaking her heart). Isn't parenting confusing? It highlights our ability to feel so many conflicting emotions at once. #breastfeeding #endings #yycdoula #yycmom #yycparents
Its to cold to go out today in the yyc so we are stretching out our beans inside. I preach about finding time for self-care sans kids, and exercise can be a great way to clear your head and reset so you can come back a better parent...but somedays "alone" isn't a reality. Tell me how you keep your kids busy while caring for yourself! ... If you are struggling to find time alone on an on going bases it is time to call in support! It is Okay to ask for help! Get creative. There are resources in Calgary please ask! #yycppdoula #yycparents #yyc #postpartumyoga #yoga #selfcare
Yesterday was my husband and my anniversary of our first date. We made fondue and watched the movie we watched on our first date (Pulp Fiction). Is parenting hard on a relationship? I think so! Is it worth is? Yes! Tell me how you connect with your partner! #yycparents #yycdoula #anniversary @gottmaninstitute
The four things moms need in the 4th trimester... 1. Sleep! I know that sounds like a mean joke with a newborn, but without restorative sleep the mind and body can go in a downward spiral. 2. Nutritious food. New parents forget to feed themselves when they are hyper focused on the new baby, but the body can't heal or thrive if not getting the nourishment it need. Small frequent meals(just like the first 3 trimesters)is best. 3. Self care. Another concept that is often forgott...en with new baby, but so important. To be the best self for the family parents need to first care for themselves. 4. Someone to listen to your story. Parents need support to achieve these 4 crucial components of healing, either from friends, family or a ppdoula. Moms and Dads are you getting the support you need? #yycdoula #4thtrimester #yycppdoula #postpartum
My 18 month parental leave is coming to an end and I want to take a moment to express my gratitude, for this time I had to focus on Hannah and my family, also to everyone who supported me through the ups and downs! I'm ready and excited to get back to helping other families adjust to and enjoy the brief window after they welcome home baby! #yycdoula #yyc #yycbaby #parentalleave
Fed is Best...and that means NOW! One of the lessons that is constantly reinforced when caring for babies is to live in the moment. If they are hungry the world is coming to an end! As a mom I have had to feed in some bizarre places, as a Postpartum Doula I want to normalize this unavoidable part of parenting so parents can enjoy nourishing their baby...anywhere! If you're comfortable please share any stories or photos of your hangry babies!
Hi everyone, it's been a while! Here's a little 2 minute animation I did 3 and a bit years ago about the trials of getting out of the house with my baby. x
