I have seen industrialised birth. It has hurt my spirit. I have seen an indoctrination that does not serve women, babies or humanity. There is another way. ... I have been reflecting recently about how many beautiful births I have seen- there has been a LOT! And when I say "beautiful birth', I mean women-led birth. Family centred birth, Birth in supportive environments. Birth where the birth-giver is the leader. Undisturbed birth. Empowered birth. Humanised birth. Gentle birth without fear. Sacred birth. Greeting the new soul with a welcome of love and respect. Conscious birth. We need to bring consciousness back to to birth. Follow the Mother. Heart wide open. She knows. Thanks for the pic by Raigan Hodgson Midwifery Tauranga, an amazing local midwife that supports women’s choices.

Maternal bond!! Heart touching photo of a newborn reaching to his mom moments after he was delivered via a cesarean section. Both physical and emotional fac...tors influence the mother-child bonding process, which usually begins to develop during pregnancy. A proof is shown right before our eyes! Moreover, there is good evidence that term newborns who are placed skin to skin with their mothers immediately after birth make the transition from fetal to newborn life with greater respiratory, temperature, and glucose stability and significantly less crying indicating decreased stress. Mothers who hold their newborns skin to skin after birth have increased maternal behaviors, show more confidence in caring for their babies and breastfeed for longer durations. Being skin to skin with mother protects the newborn from the negative effects of separation, supports optimal brain development and facilitates attachment, which promotes the infant's self-regulation over time. Do you know what I love the most about this photo? The fact that no one is interfering with this sacred moment. Mama is holding her baby close. No one is disr...upting them. No one is checking if the cord is still pulsing, measuring babies head, weighing baby, putting a tag on baby, asking questions, giving baby a vitamin k injection, removing baby to a warming table... they are simply just left to enjoy the moment! And that is my favourite thing Photos Credit- Teresa Palacios

Most of my clients have been opting out of this routine for years, but it’s so annoying that routine practice is so often outdated or nonsensical that familie...s have to be so many steps ahead to think critically about things that are routinely done in hospital settings to figure out for themselves what makes sense and what doesn’t. https://globalnews.ca//ineffective-outdated-and-unethica/
