GABRIOLA FLOWER HEADS: Portraits that Propagate Smiles!! We've launched a floral-fundraiser for the Gabriola Food Bank and need your help!! In September we asked several local volunteers (and yes, a chicken!) to model for physically distanced-portraits, with our FLOWERS ON THEIR HEADS! The result is a wonderful collection of portraits that celebrate the people and floral bounty of our island. We hope these portraits will propagate many smiles and promote generosity to the Foo...d Bank, in order to support our fellow Gabriolans. We will post all the portraits to an online gallery for you to view for free, when we reach our goal of raising $2020 for the Food Bank (hopefully before the end of November!!) A few 'teaser shots' are shown on our fundraising page (see link below) for your early-viewing pleasure! All the funds will go directly to the Gabriola PHC Food Bank, just in time for their busy winter season. Gratitude for our bounty, health and humour!

Thank you fellow islanders for supporting local flowers :). We have SOLD OUT of our cut flower CSA subscription and cut flower plant starts program! We'll start sharing our blooms in April and our plant starts in May. In the meantime, the seeding of our clients' flowers began today! We filled five trays of snapdragon, larkspur, delphinium and licorice mint. By the end of March we'll have 32 more cut flower trays filled (but not at this lightening speed!).

Tomorrow marks the end of our 2020 cut flower season and the beginning of our first commercial hazelnut harvest! Despite the global pandemic, our 'patch experienced the best growing conditions in our 8 years in business. Perfect amounts of sun, rain, soil nutrition and quieter growing days = floral and nut bounty! Fresh fledged swallows roosting on the sign by the front door has been the ultimate compliment for us as farmers.

the flowers are nice, but the best product coming from the Weedpatch are the swallows! Nesting in the barn, on the porch, in the carport, another 30 or 40 barn swallows are starting their journey here this season, and a similar number of violet green and tree swallows too. These little barns are the 2nd brood for a very competent breeding pair, enjoying their 2nd day outside the nest. Too bad we can't put them into a bouquet!

The Flower Head Portraits Fundraiser raised over $4500 for our Gabriola food bank! I am filled with gratitude and deep appreciation for my co-creators; all the beautiful models and the generous donors from far and wide!
