"The global industrial hemp market size was estimated at USD 3.9 billion in 2017" with "around 36 countries [growing] industrial hemp". We believe with the legalization of Hemp in USA that this number is sure to grow even more. "Fiber accounted for 40.4% of the revenue in 2017 on account of high demand from the textile industry". The main ingredient for our Building Blocks are a waste product (shiv). The revenue from the hemp shiv is expected to increase because of growing ...consumer demand for green buildings. Research from early 2018 shows how Hempcrete is a carbon negative building material. Most of the carbon emissions are derived in the production and transportation of the hempcrete. Figure 3 is derived from research done by European University of Brittany. The rest of the study focuses in on the insulating properties of Hempcrete and its potential in Europe. As it stands, many older buildings in Europe of little to no insulation. While this study looked at the potential of S...pray on Hempcrete, we suggest a simpler solution of Just BioFiber Hempblocks. They are easy to stack and build and are a separate structural component to traditional walls. To read the study in its entirety, check out: http://ow.ly/YEh150kaF9m
It's Friday! Work flies by when you're having fun. Also, we want to start the ball rolling and get everyone's attention. Keep a look out in the next week for some short interview clips with various team members here at JBF.
Our Blocks can be adjusted to fit the needs of your building. We have solutions for angled (and rounded) corners, electrical wiring and more.
This is a story of using hemp to build homes in Australia. It's a couple years old but great to see what others have done with hemp.
A study published in 2016 looked at the long-term durability of hempcrete used on buildings in specific environments. Researchers Arizzi, Viles, Martín-Sanchez, and Cultrone looked published their findiings in the Journal, Science of the Total Environment. They looked at Mediterranean, Tropical and Semi-arid climates. Interestingly, they found that within 'a year' there was no visible physical wear on the hempcrete surface. Salt that collected on the walls simply washed away in the rain. They were able to isolate alkaliphilic fungi and bacteria in all samples. Considering Hempcrete is bio-composite material, it bears in mind to take the necessary precautions when building in these humid locations. In September 2010, researchers at the University in Bath, build a lime-hemp based building to do 18 months of structural tests on it. It was called the HemPod. Research was done with the help of built in sensors. Dr Mike Lawrence, Research Officer from the University’s Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering, explained: Whilst there are already some houses in the UK built using hemp and lime, the HemPod will be the first hemp-lime building to be constructed purely for... scientific testing. We will be closely monitoring the house for 18 months using temperature and humidity sensors buried in the walls, measuring how quickly heat and water vapour travels through them. Check out the original post on the announcement of the HemPod. http://ow.ly/yvH850jVvZK If your interested in some of the research that came out of the experiment, check out one of the public papers in the following link: http://ow.ly/CDdY50jVvZp

The US passes legislation to legalize hemp.
Not sure if your hempcrete home will last? India's Ellora Caves had Hempcrete plaster and monuments that dated back 1, 500 years. While the average life span of Hempcrete in Europe is 600-800 years. Not bad, eh?... Want to read more about the research done at the Ellora Caves, then click the following link. http://ow.ly/tEsP50jVs6h
No, but you sure can use JBF Hemp Building Blocks and our Adhesive and specially made Mortar. Check out for more info at our website: http://justbiofiber.ca/?page_id=267
The Canada green building market is vigorous and growing, according to the findings of this study, conducted by McGraw Hill Construction in partnership with the Canada Green Building Council. The elements of the research conducted were a quantitative industry survey of building owners, architects and contractors, which forms the core of the research effort and a qualitative series of confidential in-depth interviews with green leaders in the commercial and institutional sector. These elements demonstrate that green building activity is being driven by the market, and by the benefits that accrue from good sustainable building practices. We Should Be Pouring Time And Money Into Hemp, Period. An interesting read from Forbes magazine that stated ...hemp is already poised to outshine recreational and medical cannabis production, and that CBD products (which hemp can provide) are currently outselling THC products at a rate of 10:1. What’s the difference between hemp and marijuana plants? The plants are like cousins, differentiating in amounts of THC the part that gives users a high with hemp plant amounts next to 0% THC and marijuana can contain up to 30%. The hemp plant was selectively bred for a variety of uses and stalk fibers can be used to make rope, clothes, and other textiles. JBF uses the hemp hurd (the inner part of the stalk that is mulched into smaller pieces) to make our blocks. To learn more about the difference between these two plants, read the link http://ow.ly/8qRo30mEolN
