Since joining the program, Ruth has been able to supplement her tea picking income by selling surplus organic veggies at the local market to earn extra income for her family and 3 children. We love that partnering with Thrive for Good has allowed us to not only support the people of Nandi Hills (where our tea is grown!), but it also helps support the planet, by providing learning resources in organic gardening to the community. Meet Ruth! Before joining the Thrive garden, she relied on chemical fertilizers to improve the soil fertility. This was a short term solution that impacted overall soil health and disturbed the soil pH. After learning organic grow...ing techniques from local experts at Thrive, she learned how to make a compost manure, which is a more sustainable long term solution for soil health. Have you met Russ? Russ is our Doctor of Operations and has been with JusTea from the beginning. He manages all product sourcing, production, shipping logistics and financial analysis. Fun fact: Russ once flew to Kenya with a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast used to ferment and produce kombucha) so that he could make kombucha with Boaz in Nandi Hills and it turned out great!... Russ is fluent in both English and French Swahili is coming along ‘pole pole’ (slowly, slowly). See more
