The impact of government fees, taxes and charges on new homes in the GTA is among the highest in North America, according to the following report: When the government charges are expressed as a percentage of new housing prices, the charges applicable for new homes in the GTA (19.4% to 20.7%) greatly exceed the other Canadian urban areas (14.9% to 15.9%), and the US metro areas (6.5% to 8.2%).

TREB reported a benchmark price of $943,300 in July, up 2.45% from last year. In the City of Toronto it has increased to $1,134,300, up 1.93% from last year. The increase isn’t very large (falling below CPI in Toronto), but an increase is better than a decline, right?
