Jutland Studio 21.02.2021

I'm super happy with how these two new handbags turned out! One is made from an upcycled brown Harris Tweed jacket with new purple Harris Tweed fabric added for the straps and the bottom, while the other is from a green and white plaid skirt with jacket fabric for the handles and bottom. Enjoy!

A fun, scrappy wreath that I managed to complete with supplies in my stash. I’m so thankful that I had a large stash going into the shut down!

I finally managed to finish the second in my embroidered wall hanging set. It’s been fun practicing this traditional hobby. I now have a better appreciation for all the gorgeous antique (and modern!) embroidered linens that grace many homes. How did they find time to decorate even the pillowcases? It took me forever to finish this design. I guess I just need to practice more to increase my speed! Dragonfly pattern by little dear

March 31 Frequently Asked Questions I really don’t get a lot of the same questions, but here’s two that are fun and interesting to answer: Why the name Jutland Studio?... This is the fun one as it totally has to do with where we currently live. I love history, and our acreage is on the same property where there used to be a school, the Jutland School, from 1902-1954. The amazing thing is that I met a niece of one of the teachers who had taught at the school at a local trade show. She had actually been in the school when she was younger and it was awesome to hear her stories. How did you learn to make bags and/or sew? I read. A lot. I love learning new things and solving problems. Combine that with a ‘can do’ attitude and the sky's the limit. Have there been epic failures? For sure, and they will never see the light of day, as they are kept in the back corner of a dark cupboard. From each less than stellar result, I’ve learned valuable lessons and life continues on. Most patterns that I use are not my own, but I really do love being able to add my creativity to continue on from where the pattern left off. And with that answer, I’ve totally completed the challenge, and on time! It’s been a lot of work, but I’m glad that I took the time to share a bit of what goes into the items I make. I’ve loved the feedback and support from all of you as well! Thank you! #marchmeetthemaker

March 30 Work Life Balance It’s officially out the window in favour of life right now! I seem to go through ‘seasons’ in my work life balance. There are certain times of the year where I can be found at the sewing machine for hours on end, and other times, I may go 2 weeks without stitching at all. I feel most centered when I have a creative outlet, but there are periods (like right now), where life conspires against me. Hopefully I’ll find some more time soon to get these 4 handbags finally completed and off the cutting board! #marchmeetthemaker
