Welcome! "Juvenescence" is a student-run publication at the University of Western Ontario. We feature UWO student's artistic and academic work, focusing on the contemporary struggles, growth and development of youth.

Thank you to everyone who submitted their artwork to Juvenescence so far. We have greatly enjoyed reviewing each piece, and we are excited about the release of our first issue. In light of recent events, we are in the process of reworking our original plan of having a launch party this semester; a contingency plan is in the works, and we will be updating you all shortly on the outcome of our discussion. We have decided to continue accepting submissions until then. The new ex...tended deadline is April 1, and we encourage you to submit if you haven't already. Matthew Dawkins: "Being black means many things to me but ultimately, it is a reminder that my place in this world is not happenstance. The stars did not align ...nor was luck in my favour rather, my ancestors moulded strength from shackles and forged a new destiny to make space for me. And so my dark skin tells me that I come from a line of fighters, change-makers, law-breakers and world-shakers. It is a reminder that for every last drop of freedom, education and strength that I can be proud of today, there were thousands of lives given in exchange for it. For that reason, my blackness is a constant reminder that I have entire villages standing behind me in unity but more importantly that I stand behind the new ones to come, and for them I have to create a bigger legacy." Juvenescence. The state or period of being young. For Juvenescence's first publication launch, the theme is quite simple, yet simultaneously complex. "Youth." What does your youth mean to you? As a youth, how do you view your place in this world? Contemporary youth face a wide variety of issues, of triumphs, of growths. Juvenescence wants to see how you interpret your own freshness, your own spirit, and the weight of the world's expectations upon your shoulders....
