There is a lot of talk about what should be done with this landmark building. Solar would be a great addition. Refrigerating all those future rinks won't be cheap.

There are so many great roofs in Edmonton and I am so solar programmed that I get distracted by them when I drive around. I want to go knock on these peoples doors and tell them how lucky they are. However, I have seen the response installers get when they knock on the door of a great roof and are greeted by a suspicious homeowner wondering what the heck these solar roof panels are all about. Door to door sales has been spoiled by aggressive salespeople and even with honest i...ntent can lead to negative feelings in the homeowner and the salesperson. Also, It's not in the nature of the investment to make decisions aggressively or with expediency. The material cost of solar only moves in one direction so you can't impulse a buyer with limited time offers or saying it will never be cheaper. However there is an area where holding off can have negative returns. When the cost of having an installation done one summer saves you $1000 in electricity costs over the following year and the same system installed the following summer is only cheaper by $500 you've missed out on $500 of potential savings. This is a scenario I believe is upon us as China is projected to slow down its implementation of solar farms for the first time in 5 years. http://www.scmp.com//china-erect-fewer-farms-generate-less This means that the scale of manufacturing will not increase and therefore module pricing will not decrease the percentages we are used to which means holding out for lower material prices will not likely have the improved prospect of return by waiting it once had. Please share, this house represents Alberta innovation at its finest as it is the cheapest Net-Zero home that can be attained by measurement of square feet in Canada. Juve is very happy to have been a part of its construction and hopes to install many more systems for Net-Zero construction.

Many people including myself have been waiting for this for close to a decade. It has been a common buyer objection that they are not ready for solar because an incentive is around the corner. Now they will have to object on a lower than 12 year return on investment because a significant portion of the total cost will be reduced.
