In 1998, my Dad and I had the opportunity to learn the art of chanter reed making from the absolute best-the McAllister family of Shotts, Scotland. Bill McAllis...ter took me under his wing, and when my Dad would come into the back room to see what we were up to, Bill would always say "It's between me and the boy." I still hear all of his advice. It was an absolute pleasure to know this family and to have had the opportunity to study under such an innovator, but above all a true gentleman. See more

A big congratulations to good friend P/M Andrew Hayes and all of the members of the Ottawa Police Pipe Band on the upgrade to Grade 1! The band enjoyed a great season in 2014 playing the JT2 pipe chanter reed made by JWT Reedmakers. A great achievement and all the best for the seasons to come!

Going full tilt here after a great and busy weekend in Edmonton! Had a fantastic workshop with the Edmonton Youth Pipe Band, who are sounding great and getting geared up for their trip to Scotland! Also, had a few tunes at the Edmonton and District Pipe Band ceilidh to raise funds for their Lorient trip. Really great to hear both these bands in such good form already! Great to hear our JT2 ridged reed being played by two up and coming bands with big plans for the season!

P/S Ian K. MacDonald made history in the 2016 season by winning both Gold Medals for Piobaireachd at the Argyllshire Gathering and the Northern Meeting. This incredible feat has only been accomplished 12 times in 129 years. Ian K was playing the JWT McAllister chanter reed in a Naill chanter. Thank you Ian K! JWT Reedmakers would like to thank Mr. Sean McKeown for choosing to play our chanter reeds. Sean was playing a new reed model that will be released in the coming weeks. Sean won the Silver Medal at the Northern Meeting, Inverness along with a 1st in the 'A' Hornpipe/Jig. He also had a very good Argyllshire Gathering in Oban where he placed 2nd in the Silver Medal along with a 5th in the A Strathspey/Reel. A highly successful trip! Thanks again Sean and continued success!
