Over the past few years, Option for the Poor Week has become an initiative that has brought our Jesus Youth community together in a beautiful way each Advent an...d reminds us of the importance of following in the example of Christ as we take the time to reach out and serve those most in need. A scripture passage that captures this year’s Option for the Poor Week experience is that of Jesus Feeding Five Thousand (Matthew 14:13-21). We witnessed first-hand how the Lord takes the little that each individual has to contribute, and transforms it into so much more than we anticipate. Here’s a look at how the option for the Poor Week initiative 3.0 was done in ONTARIO, NOVA SCOTIA, MANITOBA, SASKATCHEWAN, ALBERTA and BRITISH COLUMBIA. Collectively these regions were able to support charities like Knights Table, Sisters of Life, Sanctuary Toronto, Feed Nova Scotia, Loaves and Fishes, Missionaries of Charity Soup kitchen, Silloam Mission, The lighthouse, The Mustard seed, Luke 15 house and also offer a spiritual Bouquet to our mission centers in northern Manitoba. These organizations serve different communities from homeless shelters to women in crisis pregnancies to low income families to addictions. As we prepare to celebrate the Coral Jubilee (35 years) of Jesus Youth, the movement across the globe will be hosting various virtual events, starting off with a Holy mass in thanksgiving for the many blessings over the years! Join us as we pray that every Jesus Youth be renewed and transformed to be sent forth as true "Missionary Disciples" of Jesus. The Thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated on Jan 8th, 2021 @ 7 pm EST. Supporting (Serving the homeless community): Our volunteers purchased 50 Tim Horton gift cards worth $30 each, to provide hot meals for the homeless community. These gift cards were handed over to Sanctuary Toronto, who confirmed that these would be distributed to homeless people from the community in the coming days. All these activities were carried out following COVID-19 safety protocols, ensuring the well-being of everyone involved. Please keep these org...anizations, as they continue their selfless work and the recipients of our donations who are trying to make ends meet, in your prayers. Ontario Youth Team would like to thank everyone who supported us in fundraising, volunteering, coordinating activities, intercession and everything else in between. (Serving to low-income families): Our volunteers from the West end were involved in the Knights Table food drive on Dec 22nd & 23rd. They participated by sorting non-perishable food items and packaging holiday hampers to prepare for delivery to the community. Our volunteers said they were so humbled by this experience and served as a strong reminder of how privileged and blessed they were. Since the Knights Table were also in need of hygiene and sanitary products, as well as baby diapers that were in high demand, $500 worth of these items were purchased and dropped off. #seasonofgiving #optionforthepoor #the6pillars #serve #jesusyouthcanada #jesusyouthontario #jesusyouth #letsshare #intenselove
