On Saturday, February 8th,the Cretan Youth will be holding their 5th annual fundraiser. This year the proceeds from their event will be donated to an exceptional cause: Cure SPG50! Last April, little Michael Pirovolakis was diagnosed with a hereditary spastic paraplegia-50 (SPG50), a genetic defect where the body fails to produce a certain protein essential for development. As Michael grows, he will lose muscle tone, leading to possible paralysis. The Pirovolakis family is cu...rrently in a battle against time to get a hold of an expensive gene therapy that can stop the disease’s progression, but unfortunately won’t reverse the effects.
