April's "For Pet's Sake" spotlight is now going to shine on another of our clinic dogs. Please give a big "pup, pup, hooray" to Ben, our April aqua baby! Ben is a senior swimming sensation who loves everybody and cannot help but brighten whatever room he is in. One of a litter of 10 pups, Ben will be 12 this fall. He is also a cancer survivor, having recovered from the removal of a mast cell tumor under his armpit back in 2017. With his age, Ben has become weakened in his... back end and struggles to walk properly. His hip joints, back legs and also his shoulders, due to the added strain they bear to compensate for the lack of mobility in his hindquarters, cause him quite a bit of discomfort. Swimming in the hydrotherapy pool helps ease his pain, inflammation of his joints and conditions his body and muscles. He started in the pool in August of 2020 and has been coming ever since. Normally he goes south for the winter with his snowbird humans and swims in a pool there, but with Covid-19, he could not travel this year. So we are happy to have extra pool time with Ben, making sure he is as comfortable as possible. He loves to go after the stingray toy and swim around with it in his mouth..."look what I have, mom"! Happy Easter everyone! Even the Easter bunny likes to use the pool to keep in shape for hiding all those eggs and chocolate goodies! But he really needs to learn how to use the skimmer!

At K9 Aquatic Care Centre, we continuously monitor our pool's health. Weekly chlorine, pH, alkalinity tests, shock treatments when needed, underwater vacuuming, backwashing, scrubbing and skimming to maintain an ideal swimming environment for our client's dogs. It takes quite a bit of work to keep it all functioning properly. But it is worth it to make a difference in your dog's life!

It's time for our March "For Pet's Sake" post to focus on another one of our pool pooches. Please give a big "pup, pup, hooray" to Harley, our March aqua baby! Harley is a beautiful German Shepherd X, 10.5 years old, with DJD (degenerative joint disease), particularly in her front left elbow. She has been swimming with us since December of 2019. Being in the water allows Harley to experience increased range of motion in a non-weight bearing manner, helping to improve her m...obility, her circulation, ease any inflammation of her joints and maintain muscle strength. Harley brightens everyone's day, as she is a sweetheart and very intelligent. A simple "Har, come" when she is swimming is all it takes for her to change direction and follow. Her strokes are strong and fast. True to her herding breed background, Harley will sometimes "bite" at the wave ripples in the pool, just to show she is keeping everything in line. We love Miss Harley and always have a wonderful time with her in the pool! See more
