"A young cowboy was working some horses in the round pen. An old cowboy came by, watched for a while and then asked "Young man, would you like to know the secret of horsemanship?" The cowboy said he would. The old man made a fist and he said "If you can open my fist, you will learn the secret of good horsemanship." The young guy poked, pried, thumped, pinched, squeezed, pushed, punched and shoved the fist. He finally said "I can't get it open. Have you heard of the magical legend of Tomte? Their name and figures were imagined by farmers from years gone by, Tomte helped them live through the cold and d...ark winter months. A Tomte is described as, a little bearded man, just three feet high, with a long beard and scruffy plain clothes. According to Scandinavian legend, Tomte lives in the corner of the barn's hayloft. He only comes out at night when everyone is asleep, tiptoeing around in the moonlight, checking on each animal. Except for his tiny little footprints in the snow, no one has ever actually seen one. But they know the Tomte is there. It is still tradition to leave a bowl of delicious, buttery julegröt out for your Tomte, to show your gratitude, respect and thanks! Some traditions are beautiful and made to be kept alive, so we are sharing some Swedish traditions with you combined with our heart felt Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a most Happy New Year. There is a wonderful poem about the Tomten "Tomten" By Viktor Rydberg 1881
